UL basketball player David Dees remembers when he was in middle school, and the attention he got from basketball players at hometown Dayton University who volunteered to help him in school. So, when UL basketball coach Robert Lee was looking for a way for his players to be more involved in the community, and assistant coach Rick LeBato explored the HOSTS program at N.P. Moss Middle School, it was a meaningful match. HOSTS - Help One Student To Succeed - is a grant-funded, 20-year national program structured to help schools and districts accelerate students' learning. "We're trying to raise the reading levels through language arts - vocabulary, word analysis and comprehension," said Jena Clark, the lead teacher in the reading project. The Sun Belt Conference's men's basketball standings show UL's squad at 0-4. Fans who have watched the Ragin' Cajuns play, especially in the squad's two games last week, don't need to check the standings to know that their team's in trouble. The Cajuns have lost home conference games to two teams, Arkansas State and Arkansas-Little Rock, that both have losing records. Those two losses came by a combined 14 points. An opening road loss at New Orleans by an 80-76 score didn't appear to be that bad, since the Privateers were picked by most magazines to win the Western Division and got more first-place votes than any other West squad in the coaches' preseason poll. Since then, though, there haven't been any signs of life, no indication that the Cajuns are about to mount a charge and get themselves back at least to the break-even point in the league race. It’s almost the first of February, and that means it’s time for things to start clearing up in the Sun Belt Conference’s men’s basketball race. Maybe they did over the last two nights. In Wednesday’s and Thursday’s six Sun Belt men’s games, the home team won every one — a first this season since league play began in earnest. Two of those games had a direct bearing on the divisional races for all four teams. South Alabama’s 64-57 win over UL Monroe boosted the Jaguars into the top spot in the East with an 8-2 record, one game ahead of Western Kentucky’s 7-3 mark. Five days remain in the Sun Belt Conference's regular-season men's basketball schedule and not a lot has been decided, especially where UL is concerned. The Ragin' Cajuns know they can't win the Western Division, a race that still includes four teams. UL also can't earn a bye in the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament, since those go to the division winners and the second-place team with the best record. The Cajuns also can't be the 13th seed. Denver, a 67-65 home loser to the Cajuns Saturday night, has locked down the bottom seed and will travel to face the number four seed in the tournament's first round. if the coaches don't make them shoot them in practice they will never be able to shoot free throws. If we could shoot free throws i think we would have at least 4 more wins than we do.

they might shoot them every day but how many and how important do the coaches make free throws to the players. Obviously they don't stress it enough and free throws are made from habbit. the more you shoot em the more you make em. Milsap is shooting 50% from the line if that. Thats ben wallace and shaq #'s.
