Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - OUTLOOK: The Sun Belt is one of the nation's biggest conferences, with 13 teams fighting for one NCAA Tournament bid. Considering that the league is thought of as a mid-major and does not get many at-large bids, the competition among these squads is fierce. New Orleans struggled mightily last season, as star guard Bo McCalebb missed most of the campaign with an injury. Now that he is back, we expect the Privateers to finish at or near the top of the East Division. There will certainly be some serious heat from North Texas and Arkansas-Little Rock, both of which have three returning starters in the fold. Denver also welcomes back three starters, but the Pioneers lost the best player from their 2005-06 roster and may struggle to reach .500 this year. Arkansas State figures to be mediocre under Dickey Nutt, who has coached 11 years at the school. Rounding out the East are UL-Lafayette and UL-Monroe, a pair of teams with a major hill to climb. In the West Division, Western Kentucky welcomes back three starters from a team that finished 12-2 in Sun Belt play a year ago. South Alabama proved to be one of the nation's most surprising teams in '05-'06, as it won the conference tournament and put up a good effort against Florida in the "Big Dance". Don't expect a repeat, however, as the losses from that club were numerous. Middle Tennessee and Troy have a chance to make some noise out West, but the same can't be said for Florida Atlantic and Florida International.
CONFERENCE CHAMPION: Western Kentucky
PREDICTED ORDER OF FINISH: EAST DIVISION: 1. New Orleans, 2. North Texas, 3. Arkansas-Little Rock, 4. Denver, 5. Arkansas State, 6. Louisiana-Lafayette, 7. Louisiana-Monroe
WEST DIVISION: 1. Western Kentucky, 2. South Alabama, 3. Middle Tennessee, 4. Troy, 5. Florida Atlantic, 6. Florida International
TEAM BY TEAM ANALYSIS:
LOUISIANA La. - We have become accustomed to UL-Lafayette being a conference power, so the team's sub-.500 finish in 2005-06 was surprising. To make matters worse, super seniors Dwayne Mitchell and Michael Southall, who combined for 32.4 ppg and 16.2 rpg, are gone from the program. Add to that the fact that the club's two returning starters combined to average a miniscule 4.0 ppg last year, and things look pretty bleak in Lafayette. There are nine recruits in the fold, and that suggests a rebuilding year for the Ragin' Cajuns. Clearly, they may be one of the two or three least talented teams in the Sun Belt, at least in regard to returning talent.

My Iowa State Cyclones play Louisiana Monroe tomorrow night. We have a brand new coach and only 4 returning players from last year's team. That's right 4. So it's a pretty new group but hopefully we'll be able to crush the Warhawks or whatever they are now. Are they any good at basketball?
I don't know all the details about what they have back from last year but they are in the second year of their coaching staff. This will be their first year in the Sunbelt so we will learn much more about them from here on out but I think ya'll should handle them. Good luck for the season!!!Originally Posted by ISUCajunfan
Has Millsap been cleared by the NCAA? Is LaRyan Gary not elligible until after finals THIS FALL Or next season?
If everybody makes their grades for next season we will have 5 guards and one or two big men. So, who do we have coming in to help Milson and Wallace?
On a seperate note: What exactly is wrong with RaginCajuns.com, besides tech problems? We have a computer science dept., maybe they can help.
The two players that were thought to be eligible at the end of this semester (LaRyan is one of them, i think Damon Forest is the other but I'm not sure) have not and will not qualify in time to play anytime this season. They will not be able to play until next season. I'm not sure which two it was. However, Elijah, whose transcript is being questioned by the NCAA examination committee, is still up for grabs. I haven't heard any more news about the questioning.Originally Posted by imperial cajun

No seriously the company that allowed Ragin Cajuns to use web space, or bandwith was getting so much traffic that it was affecting there business. I wish to pass thank yous to that company, because for many years it saved a lot of money. Basically the extra traffic was affecting there business and they had to reduce and shut down Ragin Cajuns. It's a shame that the previous arrangement could not have stayed in place until the new site was fully operational. The good news is that it was overall intrest in our program that has caused this problem.
Now from what I understand the new site is going to blow us away. There could be audio and video archives, coaches press conferences, hopefully they will carry Ladies Road Basketball, so I can tell FSN to take a flying flip.
I'm hearing that there are now as many as 5 kids not eligible to play this year. Is there any truth to that? I know we won't get squat from the athletic department are the advertiser other than their usual coverups and fluffup about how things have never been better. Anyone know "what's going on"? On another note, what's the latest with the NCAA investigation? Are the cajuns staring "troubled times" in the face again?
Have you been sleeping under a rock or are you perhaps Rip Van Winkle? That news is very, very old and has been discussed here, on Delphi, and also in the Advertiser for months.Originally Posted by UL Reality
Uhhhh genius, I'm trying to say this in a round about way as to not stir up the bed of fire ants around here. There are only 4 that have been supposedly declared ineligible and the 5th has not been said or talked about. I'm just asking a few simple questions. Is there a problem with discussing those issues or do they need to be swept under the rug as usual? Just because things haven't been going your way there is no need to come here and show your _____ and start name calling just because you're mad and upset. What's the matter? Did I strike a nerve by mentioning this?Originally Posted by Beau Cajun
But always remember this...........the next month/year, and the next month/year, and the next month/year, etc., etc., etc., will be sweeeeeeeet for the cajuns.
