GEAUX CAJUNS!!
I am pumped, because he is intense, can recruit, has contacts, has a basketball supporting family, truely wanted the job not to use as a stepping stone but to make something happen at Louisiana, where he has family. Did Garry Brodhead graduate from USL? I will be buying season tickets, I hope he is sucessful.
I think this is a great hire. Go get em Garry
I like this hire! Pumped up and believe that he will be able to turn this program around.
So, I wonder how much UL payed that company only for them to recommend that we hire the most obvious candidate out there?
Yes, Brodhead was a pole vaulter at the school from 1975-80, graduated from the school in 1980 and was a women's basketball graduate assistant coach for the Cajuns in the 1994-95 season. He posted a 297-78 record as Teurlings Catholic's head girls coach from 1997-2007, winning the 2002 state title with one state runner-up finish and four trips to the semifinals. Teurlings won nine district titles and advanced to the state's Sweet 16 six times under Brodhead, who was district coach of the year nine times, parish coach of year three times and area coach of the year twice.
Brodhead was an assistant at McNeese State from 2007-10 before being promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2010-11 season. Some of his responsibilities with the Cowgirls included coaching point guards, leading the team's defense, academic coordinator and strength training liaison, scheduling, recruiting (Louisiana and Texas), scouting and film editing and directing preseason and postseason workouts.
In addition to that, Brodhead led the Acadiana Stars to the AAU national tournament twice, finishing eighth in 1997 and fifth in 2006. His daughter Ashley is STM's head girls coach.

Former Teurlings Catholic state championship girls basketball coach Garry Brodhead is expected to be named as the head women's basketball coach for UL Ragin' Cajuns at a noon press conference today. Brodhead has been the associate head coach at ...
Looks like congratulations are in order for the Brodhead family. I really hope this works out great for the UL sports family.
Now I want every single person who moaned about the lack of support, and all we need is this coach to make thing right. You be sure to be at every game. I want to make it impossible for the women to stay in Earl K Long. If you live within 40 miles of Lafayette you need to buy your tickets, and make most games.
I had tickets when Coach Hall was here...and I will have them again next year.
Congratulations to the new head coach. No if's, and's, or but's. The only people who hope he succeeds more than me are himself, family, and friends.
A couple of points about doing a national search. First of all we do not know if he was the most qualified, and will never know. Maybe the most qualified simply decided that this job was not for them, or could not reach accords with UL. Maybe he was the most qualified and the search simply confirmed that.
Your comment implies the search was a waste of time and money. It was neither. Now he can say he was not hand picked, or given the job but won the job in competiton with others.
In any case let the recruiting begin, and the wins.
