With no marketing, Tickets sales still bit down

If we want fans to get excited then we need to upgrade our OOC schedule. Playing teams such as LA Tech, Houston, and Southern Miss on a yearly basis is one of the things we need to do. Playing McNeese will do nothing to help us and a loss could set us back greatly. I think many people want UL to succeed, but they want proof that this program is moving forward and last season wasn't a flash in the pan. How do we do that? Put together a couple more winning seasons and get some OOC D-IA wins. Also, we need to put together a advertising campaign in the Acadiana area that promotes purchasing UL football tickets. An idea I had was for the Athletic Dept. to work with the Marketign and Advertising departments on campus to develop a campaign for them.

Here in Houston, the University of Houston is already running ads for the "Home Team" on tv, with former Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware narrating with highlights of last year and comments by current players. This is a good marketing campaign and something UL should be doing right now. Get Jake Delhomme to do an intro along with some other pro players living in the area, show highlights of last year, get fans pumped up about the coming year and our race to a Bowl game, and let's get fans excited about their "Home Team". To just sit on your buts and expect fans to start buying tickets now won't work. UL needs to be more proactive in getting this community excited about UL football and increasing season tickets.

Who should take the lead in promoting 2006 Cajun Football? From my point of view it should be KPEL, since they hold the contract for broadcasting all Cajun Football games. They have the technical know how to develope this spots. It's called promoting events that you are going to broadcast.

The reason KPEL should begin now is the fact that the summer time is vacation time for most people will be in and out of the area during this period. By running Cajun football promo's now you increase the probability that people who are in or out of the city will hear the promo's.

Furthermore, The spots should be run on all live programs on KPEL ESPN 1420. Also, KPEL parent company owns seven stations in the Lafayette area --- these promo's should run on all seven stations.

And as a public service, KPEL should make the prom's available to all stations in the Acadiana area - from Morgan City to Crowley and beyond for broadcast in their particular.

Regarding TV.. I believe the local Fox (channel 17) station has broadcasted some Cajun events. They can assist the University by developing TV promo's promoting 2006 Cajun fotball.

I heard something on ESPN1420 (KPEL) this morning which is a promotion. It is advertising the Robert Lee basketball camp which starts on June 19 I believe. Jay does a good job on the spot and I bet KPEL is doing this at no charge to the basketball program.

I'm sure there are many ways of promoting the program. The idea of Jake, Peanut, Ike, etc would be great. Today's Ragin Cajun - Tomorrow's NFL star, etc. We're getting enough guys playing at the next level and that can be positively promoted.
