I am sure that the university appreciates your efforts in promoting ticket sales last year (70,000 in all sports).

You mentioned renewals as being a concern. Again, with the pace of life today, people need to be reminded that it's time to renew their tickets for the 2006 season. What better way than to have Kpel to promote renewal of season tickets.

Since Kpel is the home station for cajun athletics.. will your ticket promo's run on all of your stations or just your sports outlet? Also, could your station send copies of the promo that you develop to all other stations in the acadiana area, since your signal is limited to the Lafayette and surrounding area?

Now it seems to me since the target area for tickets sales will be Lafayette proper and the Acadiana area the local media, primarly radio and TV, can assist the university in getting the word out regarding ticket availability.

Kpel, who holds the contract for broadcasting UL athletics events, could put together radio spots promoting football ticket sales. Copies of the promo's could be made available to all radio stations in the acadiana area. I would wager that stations would run the spots. Tv promo's could be put together in the same manner.

I would suspect that if Kpel and the other stations ran such spots during am and pm drive time ticket sales would improve.

Marketing should be thought of as a community activity not just a university function. Afterall, if 30,000 attend the games it's the local business establishments who benifit.
I understand we are not going to have a huge budget, but at least run some radio ads or newspaper ads. Hell, get the AD, SId or someone in the athletic department to do an interview on KPEL and in th ecourse of that interview push the importance of season tickets. Instead our admin seems to think that they should just sit back and wait for people to come to them for season tickets. Kind of like the attitude they have about fundraising.

If renewals are going slowly, that is a concern. Any idea why that would be the case. There is still time to convince those folks to stay on board.

You are exactly right. I forgot to renew mine last year and lost 'em. We're playing baseball & going on vacation during the summer and just not thinking about football. I was able to get them back plus 2 more last week.

I renewed, but I may have some insight into this problem.

1)People are sick of playing the SBC schedule.

    2)Non-conference home schedule sucks.

3)4pm kickoffs are horrible for tailgaters who actually go to the games.(season-ticket holders)

4)Last season's run was nice, but I think too little, too late to have large effects on ticket sales. What I mean is that people just were not impressed.

    5)Last 9 seasons, non-SBC 1-A record:

    1-46

People thought I was nuts back in '97,'98....., due to my constant and heated ramblings on the amount and severity of damage that was being done to the Cajun football program.

I think a lot of people are still saying "Show Me" before they invest their time and money in Cajun football, and I can't blame them.

We need to keep the progress going, keep winning football games, and hope we have a huge year. We need shock and awe.

I don't remember if I was calling you nuts in the lat 90's. However, you are right in that those years cost us a whole generation of fans. A 10 year bad streak is hard to overcome. I had not thought about the 4 PM games hurting renewals. They don't seem to hurt in the latter part of the season. I like 4 PM games as I am not a big tailgater and you still have your evening after the game. I realize I am in the minority however and want what is best for the program. To make an impact on attendance, we need three consecutive years of 7 or more wins. That needs to start this year.

    Look at it this way.

    1-A record(SBC schools excluded)

    '82-'96

    48-67

    wins over:

    Texas A&M
    Colorado State
    Southern Miss(4 times)
    Memphis(5 times)
    Tulane(4 times)
    Tulsa(4 times)
    Louisiana Tech(7 times)
    Rice(3 times)
    East Carolina(4 times)
    UNLV(4 times)
    Northern Illinois(6 times)
    San Jose State(4 times)
    ...etc.

    '97-'05

    1-46

    UAB

As you can see, we have become an afterthought in the region and nationally in terms of competitive 1-A football.

To be the man, you have to beat the man. If we want to be considered a good 1-A football program, we have to BEAT good 1-A programs.

We start doing that, and I think you'll see a corresponding spike in season-ticket sales. Well, that, and a few home games with Tulane,Tech, Houston, Rice, SMU, Tulsa, Southern Miss, Memphis.....
