Universities have signed agreement for a Sept. 15 meeting in Lafayette
McNeese State and the University of Louisiana have agreed to play a football game Sept. 15, 2007 in Lafayette.
Athletic directors Sonny Watkins of McNeese and David Walker of Louisiana-Lafayette made the announcement of the agreement.
Kickoff will be at 4 p.m. at Cajun Field.
The two universities have been attempting to return to the gridiron one of the state's most storied rivalries.
An earlier agreement for a game this year was thwarted when the NCAA turned down a request for 1-AA schools to schedule 12 games.
Watkins said that he was happy to be able to get the game on the board.
"There has always been a lot of interest in the McNeese-Louisiana-Lafayette football rivalry and I know that in restarting this rivalry it will draw a tremendous amount of interest and excitement for our fans and their fans as well as all of Southwest Louisiana," Watkins said.
