Monroe's Zach Taylor moved into today's semi-finals of the 18s on Sunday, as the city of Monroe played host the Louisiana State Junior Qualifying Tennis Championships for a second straight year.

Only this time, it took three sets to dispose of Kenner's Jonathan Pizzo.

Admitting he is trying to play himself back into shape after just returning from a high school seniors trip, the No. 2 seeded Taylor showed flashes of excellence along with signs of poor concentration.

"I'm a long way from where I need to be but I did enough good things to win," said Taylor, who has recently signed a scholarship to play collegiately at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

"I am excited about college and about playing tennis for UL," said Taylor after beating Pizzo 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
