I think there are only three which have a chance to get drafted this year....Fernandez, Tatford and maybe Van de Keere. I don't expect any of them to go before the 15th round, although Fernandez might.

Whether or not they sign depends on the round and the money.

I should have said "underclassmen" drafted.

If any seniors get drafted, it probably won't be very high.

Chad Beck could be drafted again.

The question was which of the Cajuns team might be drafted. Chad Beck is not a member of the baseball team. He forfeited that when he couldn't pass three hours.

Does that mean there is a good chance he won't be invited back to play next year even if he is not drafted?

My 5 picks to be drafted are in the most likely order

    : Jason Fernandez
    : Devery Van De Keere
    : Jefferies Tafford
    : John McCarthy
    : Alex Preciado

    Just my thoughts....

  11. UL Baseball Draft may alter UL's outlook

A couple of just-graduated seniors. A trio of players who are draft-eligible juniors. One player who left with academic difficulties late in the season. Three players who figure to join the program this fall.

What do they all have in common, along with their involvement in the University of Louisiana baseball program?

All could have their names called out today and Wednesday when Major League Baseball holds its annual first-year draft.

"It's kind of like it's in three phases for us," said Ragin' Cajun coach Tony Robichaux. "We want the seniors to get an opportunity to play, and we want our juniors and our incoming recruits to get a chance to play pro ball as long as they're not prostituting themselves along the way."

Among the Cajun names that could pop up are senior outfielders John McCarthy and Jeanerette's Josh Landry, both of whom finished their careers in May; eligible juniors in pitcher Jason Fernandez, infielder/catcher Jefferies Tatford and infielder Devery Van De Keere; pitcher and academic departure Chad Beck; and incoming signees Dillon Guillory, a catcher at Teurlings Catholic, and pitchers Corey Chapman of LSU Eunice and Brent Solich of Manatee Junior College in Florida.

If anybody out there is able to follow the draft today, please keep us posted on how the Cajuns are doing. Thanks in advance.
