The school should stop letting anyone in free!! Students, referees, coaches, whatever. Those folks who are not students can definitely afford a discounted ticket or a ticket at a special rate. Every little bit helps and people getting in free doesn't help It's not the same for student's, but they should still have to pay. This coming season will be the last one I will be able to use my ID for as I am finishing my graduate degree, but, I went ahead and bought season tickets anyway (5 for $250). Something should still be done to make students buy season tickets, either at a reduced rate or something.

Before you even say it, I am well aware of the politics, potential reduced attendence of students at games, etc. But if students don't pay anyway, what are you losing? Those who aren't students have no excuse for not paying for their admission into games.

I believe there is a fee in our tuition that pays for us getting in free. I don't think it is very high but I believe its there.

Right, but, being there is limit on how much the Ath. Dept can recieve from the "university", the fee could be $1000 per student, and they are still limited on what they can give.

I think that students should have the oppurtunity to buy season tickets to each sport, for a specified fee depending on the sport ($5 per game for football is not the same as $5 per game for baseball), or be able buy an atheltics pass, for $X so at least they are paying. if they don't want to do that, they can buy individual game tickets. Other schools do it. We can too. Students are definitely not the richest section of our society, but a large majority of them can afford to pay to get into a game. If we can pay $6 per beer at a basketball or baseball game, we can surely pay for admission.

Rineaux, the athletic departent makes $425,000 a semester off these student fees at $25/person. I promise you that they are making more money doing it this way than if they would do away with the fee and make students buy tickets.

that's fine. That doesn't mean that we can't still charge that money when students pay their tuition and just call it "Athletic Improvement Fund." then we can still charge them for admission to games.

Or, raise the amount that is paid for when they pay tuition to $50 or $75 per student. It would make sense. UL sports are performing better these days, attendance is increasing, demand for tickets is increasing. Better product and higher demand = ability to increase selling price. Its simple economics.

I am fairly sure that raising the student fees for athletics would need approval by the legislature. It is against the current law for universities to raise student fees for athletics past current levels. This is one of the problems UL has as compared to rest of Sunbelt. I believe that W. Kentucky has student fees of $150 per semester for athletics.

OK here is the thing I don't understand; If you are going to go out of your way to do the right thing and give each season ticket holder the opportunity for a "single" $25 ticket to the season opener . . . and settle for $7 profit.

Why go for the entire gusto on all the rest? To me selling ALL the tickets is prority-ONE. If $7 profit is not enough how about saying we are going to make what we make for a walkup at a home game plus a dollar.

At the very least, why not give a $2 discount to any extra tickets bought by season ticket holders so that the final price doesn't appear higher than the $36 full ticket price that has been talked about since the start.

    jtol (just typing out loud)
  10. I believe the $36 charge is because that is what LSU charges. We only got tickets at a discount = to the no. we believed season ticket holders would buy.

keep in mind that this money is being paid by all students. this includes those who NEVER even go to a game. dropping this to charge per game would not be a good idea. i believe however that the fee should not be $25, it should at least be $100. seriously, it's way too low

continue to allow students free entry but raise the price on the fee. even lsu allows students free entry to everything but football.

how can we go about doing this?

Just to give you guys another perspective, there are NO free events for students at Texas A&M. The right to pull football tickets costs you $200 per year (you can't buy individual student tickets) and an all-sports pass is $300 per year. This is fairly recent as I think it was about $20 a year about 5-10 years ago. However, football games is such a part of the student experience here, that charging for them probably doesn't put much of a dent in student attendance. And I think that's the rub at UL: making football an event where money is no object.

Anybody have any info on tickets for the UH game? I definitely want to go and would much rather to through our allotment and sit with UL fans rather than go through UH's dept.

I'm also interested in finding out about UH tickets. I know getting a ticket wont be a problem because their attendence is poor but I would rather buy form our allotment.

You'll be able to sit with our fans no matter where your ticket is.
