Thread: Good article...when will we learn?

  1. Default Good article...when will we learn?

I wasn't at the UL/Rice game (as I don't live near Lafayette anymore), but if the section in the article about UL is true, I'm ashamed. This statement could be taken completely out of context, but the readers who weren't at the UL game don't have the luxury of understanding the context...

  2. UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Re: Good article...when will we learn?

Not me! USA, USA come on how revolting can that be? The team Rice fielded was mostly not USA.

Some of these teams need to grow a pair. Learn to deal with people trying to get under thier collective skins.

This country better learn that the rest of the world is about winning, and taking their share from our pie. If our population continues to not be able to or unwilling to do what Jose does for us from the Home Depot parking lot we will soon be a lot like the homeland of Jose.

I didn't really see why the writer inserted that little snippet into the article about Southern Miss. It didn't seem to be tied in to the story. Just a random thought. It probably could've been tied in but wasn't.

I think its great! It is not degrading at all.

I thought it was funny when the Canadian guy was shooting free throws they started a "Canada Sucks" cheer.

Its all part of the game

This isn't the olympics. It wasn't the USA v. Iran. If it were, you'd have a point.

The chant was racially motivated (from what I gain from the article, anyway), not in an effort to cheer on the USA (whose team which we weren't watching play). Trust me, I fly my Star-Spangled Banner every day as it hangs on my house, but I don't believe that foreigners here LEGALLY deserve ridicule (even foreigners here illegally don't deserve ridicule). They have every right to study, play sports, sight-see, etc.

I'd be willing to bet that we have foreigners on many of our sports teams (I'm guessing Tennis for sure)...should we be concerned about them too?

I think he only included it as he is a writer for the Houston Chronicle...where Rice is based. That's my guess.

So tired of everyone being so sensitive about every little thing. You can't stand for anything anymore because you offend someone somewhere.

It's not offensive at all, yet it is brazenly stupid. Trace the family tree of the people doing said chant...my money is on their heritage being outside of the USA. We all came from somewhere. To get whiny about it now just makes this country look like ____ing morons....or as the rednecks say....

so you think by chanting USA we are taking that right (the legal ones) to study, play sports, sight-see away from them. do you really think the guy from Iran was offended because he heard americans chanting USA? that's a great big "COM'N MAN!!"

We have a person from Sweden on our Tennis team. I would hope if he heard an opposing fan scream, "IKEA is crap", he would laugh it off. That's funny. To be offended by something so innocuous would be a bit over the top. I think the "USA" chant is idiotic, but not offensive. Now chanting something more creative like "Cartel Drug Mule"...now that's offensive...and funny.
