Thanks, Doug and Andre! Get some rest, Ladies, and come out smokin' tomorrow! Our hitters will have to come up BIG! This win also validates the #2 seed idea. We shoulda been a 2. Oh well, let's win 2 against the #1 seed tomorrow!

  5. UL Softball Cajuns win extra-inning game of their own to stay in the hunt

BATON ROUGE - The University of Louisiana softball team didn't want to lose two extra-inning games in NCAA Regional Tournament play Saturday.
Jessica Lemon made sure they didn't.

The freshman catcher, who one week ago was the Most Outstanding Player in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, laced a game-winning double into the right-center field gap in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring Tara Hamilton from second base and giving the Ragin' Cajuns a pulsating 4-3 victory over North Carolina State in Saturday's late elimination game.

The win puts the Cajuns (50-11) into today's 1 p.m. championship round against host LSU, and gives the third-seeded UL squad a chance for revenge for Saturday's disheartening 7-6 10-inning loss to the Tigers in the earlier winners' bracket final.

UL, though, will have to take two wins today to advance to next weekend's Super Regional against Arizona, which won its own regional Saturday and figures to host the Super Regional in Tucson, Ariz.

Lemoine took a 2-0 pitch from Wolfpack relief pitcher Megan Dalthorp (7-4) and landed it almost at the warning track between center fielder Blair Harkey and right fielder Abbie Sims. Hamilton, who led off the ninth with a single up the middle and moved up when Codi Runyan drew a walk, was already at third base when the ball bounced next to the fence.
