I was out of town yesterday and caught up with the posts today. Why do ya'll think we only had 2,000 at the game that surprized me?

Probably had something to with the fact that Lafayette media did a ____ poor job of promoting this game from the get-go. They talked about it as if it were just another home game (big mistake) if you don't talk this thing up to what it is (a post-season appearance that we are hosting for the first time since '85), then people don't care.
Sorry, just ranting here, still not over that performance last night. I was really excited about this tourney as I know a few others were as well, I really felt like we could've done some real damage... but oh well. This team has some maturing to do mentally before we can expect too much of them.
Even the signs I saw on campus just said "Basket ball game tonight. Free with studnt ID."
It came across as just another game.
2000 was just about what i thought. We just didnt have a great team this year. Not much to get fired up about. The average basketball fan wants 3 things, dunks, threes, and wins. We needed more of all three this year. I think marlin is a very good coach, but if he cant get 12 players that can shoot free throws, make open shots, and 5 of them taller than 6'8" it will be hard to make the ncaa. iragee
We had a small attendance because no one really expected us to win. Let's just be honest.
Let's just be honest, the students don't show up! Outside of the first 6 rows in the student section, it's like they are watching a damn movie! We also have 7 years of crap basketball to draw from. The Cajuns need to find some serious athleticism from somewhere.
I went to the game because I support the Cajuns. Outside of that, I really didn't feel motivated to go.
You shouldn't have to promote a basketball game as an event to students! That is just another excuse. We have 17000 students and couldn't get 25% of them to show up, that should be the minimum for each home game. We should expect a great crowd every game due to the students. Look at schools lik New Mexico, Utah St, Witchita St, UNLV, and mizzou St all mid majors who have unbelievable student support. That is the type of support we should EXPECT. This is a failure of the dean of student affairs and the Greeks, it is a damn shame. That we only had maybe 600 students in the dome.
Now some of you may defend them and ask about non student support, that was pathetic as well. We should be able to draw at least 2% of the Lafayette metro pop IMO.
It is flat out embarrassing to play in the cajundome at less that 25% capacity. That is just as bad as Tulane football.
7 years since we have had a winning season is a big reason for the lackluster attendance. Many steady fans have lost interest in that time. A better product on the court is needed to get many of those to return. Also note this crowd was about average for the CIT. Even a basketball school like Indiana State had virtually the same crowd. Part of the problem for a game like this is that the corporate season tickets are not used. My company has six and an extra game like this would require the PR Dept. to approve it. Of course that did not happen and is probably an issue for all CIT schools.
