Nothing wrong with a "rent-a-win"... the big boys do it.. as important as it is to get money by going to places like UT and getting killed, I think that if UL wants to move up some, we need to play more teams like this to pad our record and more teams from the mid-majors that we know we can hang with...

LAFAYETTE- After their home opener fell through for the second time, the third time was the charm for Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns. UL announced on Tuesday, May 30 that it will host North Carolina A&T State University on Sept. 23 in the Sixth Annual Herbert Heymann Football Classic at Cajun Field. The Ragin’ Cajuns were forced to scramble following the loss of Sept. 16 home games against Ohio and McNeese State. Ohio initiated a buyout of their contract on April 8, with UL then agreeing on April 19 to host its in-state rival. Since the Cowboys I-AA schedule was full, the agreement was subject to the NCAA passing legislation allowing I-AA schools to play a 12-game season. The 12-game proposal was defeated on April 27 for the second straight year. “McNeese tried everything they could to keep our game on,” stated Cajuns interim athletics director David Walker. “In the end, their schedule was full and none of the games could be moved.” The Cajuns and Cowboys are in discussions for a game in Lafayette on Sept. 15, 2007. North Carolina A&T could not fill the Cajuns Sept. 16 open date, but were open on Sept. 23. That date now gives the Cajuns an open week following games at Louisiana State and Texas A&M. UL will now play 4pm home games on the final two Saturdays in September. “Most schools are almost finished with their 2007 football schedules,” added Walker. “We were very lucky to find a school willing to travel to Lafayette. “North Carolina A&T has a very long football tradition and they may bring their nationally recognized Blue & Gold Marching Machine.” ( http://www.marchingmachine.com ) The NCAT Aggies, located in Greensboro, N.C., have played football since 1924. The Aggies were named Black College National Champions by the Pittsburgh Courier in 1968, by the American Sports Wire in 1990 and 1999 and by the Sheridan Poll in 1999. Since 2000, NCAT has compiled a 36-33 record, including a 3-8 mark in 2005. The Aggies are coached by Monroe, La. native and former Grambling All-American Lee Fobbs. Fobbs’ son Broderick was a graduate assistant coach at UL for two seasons from 2000-01. The game will count toward Louisiana’s bowl eligibility since NCAT offered more than 90 percent of the maximum football scholarships allowed in I-AA last season. The University of Louisiana's last-minute football scheduling chaos was smoothed over Tuesday, and interim athletic director David Walker has already taken steps to insure no repeats next year. UL officially announced its 12th football game and its sixth home game for this fall, adding Division I-AA North Carolina A&T on Sept. 23, and Walker said that five home games for 2007 are contracted and a sixth is awaiting contract agreement. "We're pretty much locked in for next year now," Walker said Tuesday. "We're just glad all this is over with." UL has been looking to fill a football date since April 8 when Ohio University initiated a buyout of a contracted Sept. 16 game. Walker said he has received the contracted buyout payment from Ohio, which dropped the Cajuns to add a game against Rutgers. Ohio will now come to Cajun Field on Sept. 8, 2007, to start a home-and-home series that will send the Cajuns for a return trip to Athens, Ohio, on Sept. 11, 2010. Next year's game will be the home opener, with UL opening its 2007 season at South Carolina on Sept. 1.
