Some members of the LPTFA say turning the old Lafayette Wholesale Grocery store on Olivier Street into studio apartments is not well planned. Chairman John Arceneaux says there was limited time to put a plan together since the finance agency gave funding for the project less than three weeks ago.

"In fact, we had just 30 days to come up with an application and plan," said Arceneaux.

The plan was to turn the building into apartments. A place where area artists, graphic designers or architects could work and live.

"The building lends itself for something like that. The architecture, the history and location lends itself to being a great artist community," said Arceneaux.

Rent would have ranged from 500 to 700 dollars. People from the neighborhood spoke out about turning the building into an artist community at the meeting, unsure if it would be a good fit for their neighborhood. But Arceneaux says t's not over. He expects the board will come to an agreement soon
