Oh my. This is terrible.
His mom is a UL alumna
This is a sad day, tommorrow is mothers day will be even sadder. It's no wonder the guy wanted to get as far away from Baton Rouge as he could.
I heard the news riding in my car not that long ago and was shocked. It's a sad day. I wish his family well during this horrible time.
I heard it on ESPN Radio.

Francis shot and killed in Baton Rouge
LOS ANGELES -- Southern California freshman point guard Ryan Francis was shot and killed early Saturday while riding in a car in Louisiana, where he was visiting his mother.
The 19-year-old Francis was killed about 3:30 a.m. in Baton Rouge, said Tim Tessalone, USC's director of sports information.
"We understand he was in a car and somebody shot into the car," Tessalone said.
No other details were immediately available.
Francis was USC's starting point guard and averaged more than seven points a game. He scored 22 points a game at Glen Oaks High School in Baton Rouge, leading his team to a 36-0 record and the state's 4-A championship in 2004-05. Francis was named the 2005 Louisiana Class 4-A Player of the Year.
"We're all devastated," said USC coach Tim Floyd. "We've lost a special young man who in his short time at USC made an impression that will last forever."
Its like this if you want to be through stay out pass two
Will certainly say some prayers for his family. Really sad that these days so many feel they must solve their problems with guns. When I was growing up kids used fist.
What a shame.

BATON ROUGE - Former Glen Oaks High School star and current Southern California freshman point guard Ryan Francis was shot and killed early Saturday morning at an intersection in Baton Rouge.
Francis, who was in town visiting his mom, was one of four passengers in a vehicle awaiting a stoplight to change at the corner of Winborn and Acadian around 2:30 a.m. While waiting, the driver of a second car pulled alongside Francis and company and opened fire, striking the 19-year-old multiple times. Francis, who was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle, was the only person in the vehicle who was injured.
"We can't say too much right now, because we don't want to compromise the investigation," said Lt. Keith Bates of the Baton Rouge Police Department. "All I can say is that there was a shooting that occurred in between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. at an intersection and a guy who played basketball in Baton Rouge and was the starting point guard at USC was killed."
Bates did confirm that one person had been arrested.

just curious.. how is this guy a "former UL recruit"? Did he commit to UL at one time or was he just recruited by UL (which would mean you could refer to thousands of athletes as "former UL recruits"...)?
Francis did in fact commit to play for UL last year. USC hired Tim Floyd about a month after his committment and recruited Ryan very hard and it payed off as during the signing period, Ryan signed with USC.Originally Posted by locoguano
Good question and accurate assessment. Here is a LINK to the story when Ryan committed to UL.Originally Posted by locoguano
