The University of Louisiana softball team collected only five hits Friday, but host Florida International was in an overly giving mood in the winners' bracket finals of the Sun Belt Conference Softball Championships.

The 15th-ranked Ragin' Cajuns took advantage of 10 walks from FIU pitchers, three Golden Panther fielding errors and various other mistakes in taking a 6-2 victory at Miami's University Park, improving to 21-0 all-time in Sun Belt tournament play.

The win puts the Cajuns (47-10) into their accustomed tournament-controlling role entering today's finale. UL is the only unbeaten team in the double-elimination meet and will play in the championship game at 3 p.m. (CDT) against either FIU or Troy.

If UL should lose that game, the same two teams will square off again at 5:30 p.m. for the league tournament title. FIU and Troy open today's play in a 12:30 p.m. elimination game for the right to face the top-seeded UL team.
The Cajuns have been in this situation before - since 2000, in every tournament the Sun Belt has held - and they've never lost in the title game.
