Deggs to UL after departing TAMU last year due to illness and or personal reasons, TAMU press release http://www.kbtx.com/sports/headlines/113236959.html
For the past five seasons, Deggs has directed the team’s offense and infielders while assisting with recruiting. His aggressive offensive approach has been an essential component of the Aggies’ success which has seen them capture three Big 12 Championships and tie a school record with four consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Over the last four seasons, the Aggies hit .306 with 299 home runs and over 2,700 hits while driving in over 1,600 runs--the best four-year totals in a decade. In addition, Texas A&M swiped over 400 bases at a nearly 75 percent success rate.
Under Deggs’ tutelage, four Aggie position players earned All-America honors, while 19 of the program’s hitters earned All-Big 12 accolades.
Welcome aboard
Back on topic.. This is huge news. Remember the "transition" we went through when Trahan got the job? Trahan also came to us as an "agressive offensive minded coach" and we haven't hit the ball since 2007.
For any shortcomings we've had as a hitting team, he's made up for with his lead role as recruiting coordinator in most peoples minds.
And yes the talent brought in is not proven yet but anyone with a little baseball knowledge can see the massive potential.
Ah potential.. Our favorite word around here. Obviously there is 'potential' in our young team, I never questioned that. My point is, by the time this potential takes form, we will have endured 6 years of rebuilding.. A lot of that has to do with the fact that Trahan went after different types of players, trying to fit his aggressive philosophy. I'm worried that will happen again. Anyone with a little recruiting knowledge would worry about the same.
Scefz is the reason for that, the only player here that scefz recruited is bowman. Trahan is the reason we are heading in the right direction. He finally brought in some kids with a set between their legs. You can tell these kids don't just have potential, they have an attitude. That's what this team has been lacking. Deggs recruited at Arkansas and A&M, he was also suggested by Trahan and Babineaux, guy can flat out recruit.
6 years of rebuilding? Besides the fact that we were in a regional 2 years ago, one that we were a hit from beating UT, I'd say it's partial exaggeration. How is Trahan responsible for any rebuilding anyway when he's been here less than a 4 yr cycle? If we're down in 2 years, then say Trahan's classes never produced
Lets go over simple facts. Trahan's been here, what, 3 years. He is recruiting coordinator. His last 2 classes have been, by all accounts, very good as far as potential. Since he's hasn't been here longer than any of his recruiting classes, it's kinda hard to judge the final product on anything other than potential and the word of mouth from HS coaches on his impact in recruiting, and to some extent the production as underclassmen.
I'd say all of those boxes are checked.
If a kid is talented, he will work in most systems. I don't see all these so called wildly aggressive batters falling off. How wildly aggressive are we anyway? If you can't see the potential of the core he's brought in, open them up a little. No recruiter in the nation brings in 100% starters, but he has a good percentage of hits when you consider how many fill out our lineup. Part of that is also necessity because our classes before him that would be upperclassmen are where???
Do we not have a great set of freshmen and sophomores that look like they should bloom into a solid club (many are producing now)? Again working on potential as he hasn't had a full 4 years on any of his classes
And after all that, the NCAA drops bbcor bats on us that makes hitting .300 a great accomplishment
With the exception of a late season push (which was particularly spear headed by two major league PITCHERS) this program has been mediocre for 5 years. I say 6 years of rebuilding because this "potentially great" class will not come to to full blossom for another year or two. We brought in Mike to pack the lineup with punch, and when the offense struggled over said 5 years, the excuse was, "we're in transition! Let Trahan get his guys in". I understand it takes time for recruiting classes to show their fruit, but we're still in what most would call a rebuilding situation with all the youngsters, in this, his 3rd season, 4th class.
My concerns are not about the quality of player that Coach Trahan has recruited. I just dread another turnover like we've all thought had something to do with our lull in consistent winning. Specifically lack of offense.
Also, what people seem to forget is that Trahan's first year, he did very little recruiting. He had a newborn in a hospital in Nebraska that whole season. He was up there where he needed to be as often as possible. So I'd say he only has two classes here. So all the freshman and sophomores........and Sinclair who Trahan had in Monroe. Dam, that's almost everybody contributing right now.
I say let's just enjoy the here and now. This young team is playing very well right now. The future is very bright because of so many young players contributing. And we have a top notch new coach with serious recruiting connections in Texas, which many thought we needed to get back into.
Last night, I just sat in the stands enjoying what I was seeing. Not a negative thought in my head.
GEAUX Cajuns! (...and Lady Cajuns!!)
