Bad team or not, it's always nice to beat a team from a bigger conference.

    Big 12 in baseball
    SEC in softball

Not a bad day to be a Cajun fan!!!

Favorite win of the season for me. I am from Missouri and was raised to hate all things Kansas. Now I get to celebrate UL beating them along with Mizzou. Great day indeed.

Nichols bunts and it's thrown away. 8-6 now. That's all

    Bottom 9th now
Kellogg was hitting 92 with the fastball and 78-81 on the slider in the 9th. Good
velocity for early in the season. Except for the pitch where he plunked the guy in the back, location was good ... even purposefully climbing the ladder to get a couple of strikeouts.

His location was a little problematic during the week. Couldn't keep anything off the carpet for a little while but he worked out of it. His stuff is tremendous when he's on. Possibly the best on the team.

I was watching him warm in the pen and he bounced one slider all the way to the outfield wall. He had trouble with a couple others as well. Fortunately he was able to get it out of his system.

I did not get any gun readings, but I can confidently say he looked about 85-86. Not a hard thrower.

It was a very rough start as the Jayhawks hit .500 against him in the first 12 AB. But he settled in and was having success with his breaking ball.

That would really surprise me, but if true I was fooled.

FWIW, Perfect Game had him throwing 83mph in July 2008, nearly four years ago (before his senior season in high school).

Perfect Game had Kellogg throwing 91mph in July 2010 (after his senior year) ... 89mph after his junior year. Against Kansas, Kellogg I saw plenty of 90 readings, a 91mph pitch that hit the batter, and a 92mph. I should also clarify that this was one of the older Juggs guns. Juggs guns measure velocity as the ball leaves the pitcher's hand ... and thus results in a higher reading than other gun types. Some of the older gunds measure plate speed. The newer Stalker guns can measure speed as it leaves the pitcher's hand, average speed, and plate speed via configuration setting.

I would think plate speed would be more important than hand speed. Although significant differences between the two might make it tougher to pick up for the hitter, IDK.
