Lafayette superintendent's plan for reorganization

Lafayette Parish Superintendent Pat Cooper says he's reorganizing and streamlining the central office.

Some job titles and descriptions could change. He says he'll be sending employees 120-day notices.

"In no way should that be construed as pink slips or notices that anyone is gonna be losing their job, that's not what this is."

Cooper says reorganization is not about layoffs and cutbacks. It's about transparency and accountability.

"If you streamline things you make 'em more transparent to the public and that's one of the things I'm bound and determined to do. The public needs to know what we're doing and how we're doing it."

Besides transparency, Cooper says streamlining will make the central office more efficient. In turn, saving money.

"We are gonna save a lot of money during this process that we can put back into children and the schools and that's where it belongs."

No plans are final and Cooper doesn't yet have specifics, except he mentions a plan to create feeder systems to separate districts, improving accountability.

He says he hopes to have everything in place next school year.
