The least we could do is put the guy in some Delcambre Reeboks... Now that represents.

This IS a factor. Partly I should say because the mascot last year wasn't a guy, it was a girl. Aboslutely nothing against girls (I love em and they know what they're doing) but you have to find just the right person to do the job, like Russell was, someone who will bring excitement to the game.Originally Posted by CDeb
All in all though, i still really like the idea of Mr. Cajun and think he could be revised a little and make the fans proud.

I dunno... maybe it would look too much like the Western Kentucky "blood clot"! I love the peppers on shirts, hats posters, etc. But NOT in a costume! Russell Heim, aka Cajun Chicken, was an entertainer par excellance. The chicken costume was, I think, loosely based on the nationally famous San Diego Chicken. (Kind of a cheap, not-so-attractive imitation.) To be honest, I don't think the chicken suit was much more attractive than Cayenne's. But the way he performed was leagues away from Cayenne. I think some of Russell's skits borrowed from the SDC. But he had a special ingenuity about when and how to present the most appropriate skit at the best time. It really got the crowd going! I remember laughing at his "big hairy spider on a fishing pole" routine! I sure do miss his routines (almost as much as I miss Graylin Warner, Dion Brown, et al!) Thanks for all of the great memories, Russell!Originally Posted by RaginEsquire06

A guy in overalls eh?
Been done, but I could see this one altered with a more "cajun" flair...
why dont we hire that guy from the waterboy that played farmer fran to come be our live mascot, he could just stand there and babble, i would be down for that
I know how much everyone loves the cajun heritage, but making a mascot that resembles an inbred uneducated moron doesn't help the national perception of this area. I mean you know as well as I do, if you have traveled, that alot of people believe that the entire state is exactly like the movie the waterboy. This area isn't like that at all. This state and this area in particular has so much more to offer. We are well known for our food and that is the direction the pepper came from. I think the pepper as a logo is terriffic and I want to keep it. But, I agree that as a mascot, it leaves a lot to be desired. I believe that we want to promote our culture and heritage with a mascot; but taking a guy dressed up like colonel sanders and making him look like he just washed up from Pecan Island after a hurricane will only hurt this university's reputation. People will take us even less seriously. Especially since the mascot will be a retarded clone of another university's mascot. What about a crawfish? You'd have to give him some huge muscles and some dangerous looking claws and a ferocious demeanor, but it could work and it represents this area. It's an idea that may not be perceived well but it's an idea. And at least it's not a retarded copy of someone else's mascot. Oh and at least it's not generic like that stupid tiger from down the road. I mean there's no connection to a tiger in baton rouge unless they are located next to a fricken zoo. And yes I've heard the story about the airplane fighting tigers. That's a load of bull if you asked me. It sounds like they pulled that one out of somewhere deep to cover the question "What the heck does a tiger have to do with Baton Rouge?" So let's get started on a new origional mascot that projects our culture to the rest of the nation as something to be proud of. Not as the retarded inbred second cousin that the family doesn't talk about, of old Colonel Reb.Originally Posted by shasta

hey i like this idea, its original, and does indeed represent this area, and would be much better than the pepper as a mascotOriginally Posted by Kal
