Thread: Tracking the Preaux career of Bill Sampy

  1. Default Sampy makes Eagle practice squad

PHILADELPHIA -- The Eagles formed their practice squad around wide receivers Bill Sampy and Mike Gasperson and linebacker Torrance Daniels, all discarded in the cutdown to 53.

The Eagles also added recent cuts Tim Day, the tight end released by Chicago, safety Dustin Fox, a 2005 third-round pick of Minnesota, center Jasper Harvey, waived by Washington, and fullback Zach Tuiasosopo, most recently of Oakland.

  4. Default Ragin' Cajun Forever: Bill Sampy on Eagles' practice squad

Former Carencro High star and Louisiana Ragin' Cajun wide receiver Bill Sampy has been added to the practice squad of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles.

Sampy had made it to the final cutdown before the Eagles established their 53-man regular-season roster last weekend.

In four seasons with the Cajuns ending in 2005, Sampy caught 155 passes for 1,988 yards and 9 touchdowns. His best season was 2004, with 57 receptions for 776 yards and 6 scores.

  6. UL Football Don't have a cow over the calves; he's a burner

THE FIRST THING you notice about Bill Sampy is the skinny legs.

There's no getting around it; Sampy, otherwise a lithe and muscular wideout at 5-11, 192, has calves that can only be classified as Pinkstonian. This is particularly noticeable when the players are wearing short pants and no pads, as they are in the minicamp for rookies and select vets that continues through this week.

The second thing you notice is that Sampy accelerates and cuts smoothly, catches the ball pretty effortlessly.

"He's a talented player. He'll be competing and fighting for a roster spot," Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said this week. "I think he's a very good player. He's at that point in his career when he feels very comfortable with us, he makes very few mistakes. He'll be right in there."

Did ya'll see this in the article?

Practice-squad projects like Sampy are often good athletes whose careers took a detour or two. Sampy said he got Division I attention coming out of Carencro (La.) High, but didn't qualify under Proposition 48. He didn't want to go to junior college and then transfer, so he accepted an offer at nearby Division I-AA Louisiana-Lafayette, where his mother, Dorothy, worked as a food-service cashier (he has her name tattooed on the back of his right shoulder; it's unclear whether that netted him extra dessert at dinnertime).

This jackass needs a few e-mails.

I sent him an e-mail, and was polite, and this was his response. I guess i wasn't the only one who sent him something...

yes, I'm very sorry, I misinterpreted something Sampy said about "bigger schools" backing off him after he didn't qualify under Prop 48. Many Ragin' Cajuns have pointed this out ... I will correct it for tomorrow.
    Thanks, Les

Sampy also needs to run up to this guy (at a 4.2 40) and whop him with one of his calves. The last time I checked, calves didn't catch any NFL passes.

I wonder if he turned any of those Ragin Cajun emails over to homeland security?
