Bill Sampy, a rookie free-agent wideout from Louisiana-Lafayette who has been praised by coaches this week, thinks he knows what McNabb means.
"I'm real excited. I played at a small school and haven't been in a nationally televised game before," Sampy said. "I kind of have that problem [even in practice]. Sometimes when it's press coverage, I tend to hurry up my route. It's a matter of taking my time, reading defenses."
Sampy, who had catches in 40 straight college games, aims to extend it to NFL.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Chase Utley's hitting streak, which ended last night, won't be the last one Philadelphia sports fans get to follow this summer.
Eagles rookie wide receiver Bill Sampy is hoping to make a catch in his 41st straight game.
Technically, if Sampy does make a catch tomorrow in the Hall of Fame game against the Raiders, it won't count. The 40 catches came in college at Louisiana-La. and this is only a preseason game.
But it counts to Sampy.
Actually, Sampy, who joined the Eagles as a free agent, is trying to make everything count so that he can make the team.
"It's all about competition," said Sampy, who is 5-foot-11, 192 pounds. "I came in as a free agent and I'm at the bottom trying to work my way up. The main thing right now is me getting a shot."
So far in camp, the coaches have liked what they've seen from the speedy receiver, who finished his career fifth in the Ragin' Cajuns' all-time list with 1,988 receiving yards.

I missed it to sorry Turbine...I fell asleep early in the game and checked the box score to see if he had done anything and seen he had a catch.Originally Posted by Turbine
Undrafted rookie receiver Bill Sampy has had a very good preseason and should wind up on the practice squad. Same with Cole and defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey.
PHILADELPHIA -- The Eagles formed their practice squad around wide receivers Bill Sampy and Mike Gasperson and linebacker Torrance Daniels, all discarded in the cutdown to 53.
The Eagles also added recent cuts Tim Day, the tight end released by Chicago, safety Dustin Fox, a 2005 third-round pick of Minnesota, center Jasper Harvey, waived by Washington, and fullback Zach Tuiasosopo, most recently of Oakland.

Former Carencro High star and Louisiana Ragin' Cajun wide receiver Bill Sampy has been added to the practice squad of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles.

In four seasons with the Cajuns ending in 2005, Sampy caught 155 passes for 1,988 yards and 9 touchdowns. His best season was 2004, with 57 receptions for 776 yards and 6 scores.
