ROUX: Bailey picks Cajuns

Baseball player Josh Bailey of Bethany Christian will sign with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette today. Bailey had previously signed with a junior college, LSU-Eunice, last fall. Bethany coach Rick Smith said ULL came to watch Bailey play recently. After a visit, Bailey committed to the Cajuns. Smith said ULL is signing Bailey, a pitcher-first baseman, primarily to pitch. Despite missing some starts with an injury, Bailey is 7-2 and has 87 strikeouts in 36 innings. Bailey will start a playoff game against Downsville set for 4 p.m. today at Pete Goldsby Field. Well, I consider an If for him, Moody, Glass and Fernandez. All could be picked up in the draft.

Actually only Fernandez and Beck are eligible as juniors. Moody and Glass are both true sophmores and not eligible until they are juniors.

I didn't know that. I feel a little more confident about our starting rotation that I did then. I do believe that Coach needs to go get a few more outfielders, we're gonna be really hurting there next year. Our pitching should be solid again barring the draft, we'll have moody, glass, fernandez, Beck, Farquar, Wilborn, and Harmon coming back, not to mention Lil Robe is comen in and hes supposed to be very good. What I'm concerned about is Outfield. Preciado, Mcarthy, and Landry all are seniors and truthfully, these 3 are crucial to our offense. I do like Cody Martin defensively, but hes gotta improve offensively, after that, theres just way to many question marks for me. Van De Keere will take over for tatford at first, Santiago will go to third, Bourque plays 2nd, and I'd guess that Hicks would play Shortstop. Thats a solid group of hitters, but we'd definitly still need some good production from our outfielders.

Tatford is a Jr and unless he is drafted and goes pro he will be back. Hicks is a 2nd basemen not shortstop and Geoff Craig will play short. I believe Van De Keere can play the outfield as well.

I dont know why I thought tatford was a SR, thats cool, keep him there, move van de keere to outfield. As for Hicks, I thought about them being really high on him, so i figured they would use him at shortstop as a chance to get him on the field.

Yea I know what you mean...Bourque has established himself at 2nd but I think Hicks is going to stick at 2nd because Craig is also a very highly thought of player i believe.

Moody and Glass are Soph's they are Cajuns thru their Junior years atleast. Freshmen signees are protected thru their Junior years! We have some very nice HS coming in and Harmon a Freshman is already here. Robe is doing a much better building the program with a greater emphasis on HS and less weighted on JC's!!
