When I thought about it, I seem to remember Perez setting a pick early in the game & roling off for a three. I was distracted when Coleby made the dunk, so I didn't see that, but I don't recall there ever being another situation like either of those scenarios. Just for the record, I hope you guys are right & I'm wrong, because I do think Marlin can coach. I just don't know if he is using his best judgement or letting something get to him. Either way, something is going to have to give. This is reminding me more of John Brady every day.
Kyle. I would agree with u if we had a better options at the point. But, Raymone has caused problems before and he still plays more minutes than Elfrid. Saturday is the first game Elfrid started in awhile and it had everything to do with Raymone not practicing hard.
I can agree that there is a problem w/ recruiting when none of your guards can shoot, I've said that from the beginning.
Given his current health, J.J. should be playing the 4 or 5. Stay in the post and try to outwork people instead of drifting out on the perimeter. He has no business playing the 3 (or 2) right now due to his inability to protect the ball, defend and consistently hit shots on the wing.
Payton can create his own shot after getting into the lane but should focus on sharing - and protecting - the ball as the point and using his length to defend. His offense will become more polished in time, but I don't ever expect him to be a strong outside shooter. He doesn't have to be a great outside shooter, just serviceable. This year the coaches have decided to take the good and the bad as he develops. He has a chance to be special. Anyone with any experience as a scout/coach will agree.
With continued development, Payton will have a chance to play professionally in the states or abroad after college. Darshawn McClellan, Kadeem Coleby, Josh Brown and Kentwan Smith also have some skills that could earn them some money as pros in the future.
Precisely... not a single person on this year's team has a consistent mid-range jump shot. And that's one of the problems that I hope the coaching staff addresses during recruiting season in addition to fixing the team chemistry problems.
In the meantime, I'll be really shocked if UNT doesn't hand us our gluteus maxmi on Sunday given how things have gone the past two weeks.
Maybe we need some black uniforms.
:-)
Please ---he is now 18 years old----but most of his playing time was by a 17 year old----I haven't seen anybody penetrate like him in a long time----Circus moves at the basket---great feeds when doubled---has charged a number of times---Seems never to shoot from the outside---somebody mentioned it before me but his leadership or at least getting on team members became obvious in the game---he was ____ed and didn't want to lose!!!! I think he is/will be great!!!! Also does well in our 6 man offense!!! lol
First off Marlin said Elfid practiced better. That was lie one. Mone killed them at practice all week. Marlin made the decision to play E before practice 1 last week. And raymones assist to turn over is not i1.7. It is like .7. Now stop defaming either kid and make Marlin and AD tell you all why this happened instead of taking them at saying the will make no other comment then come back on here. You all are amazing. Just SMH.
Boomer: I like what the kid's shown us this season and he'll go down as one of the better guards to come through here if he does like Josh said and develops enough of a jump shot that defenses have to respect. Upside is that's something he can add to his game thru some work over the summer. Be interesting to see if he avoids the Sophomore slump that affected players like Thomas and others that have come through here the past few years.
