You make good points about his competition which I haven't studied, but I disagree with you about him playing or being able to play free safety. I think he'd be an outstanding free safety. He has the four greatest attributes it takes to be a great free safety. He is fearless. He has great recovery speed. He has great instincts for the ball. He is also willing to do what it takes to help make his team better. Those are character traits that make you valuable in the NFL at any position. Just think. Back in the day. Before the internet & mass social media, guys like Bentley could go through a 12 round draft & never be chosen. This should be a lesson for all who don't want to make evaluations on players & don't want anyone else to do it either. The idea that someone has to be appointed a guru by the NCF East network is attrocious & dates back to monarchs & dictators.
He may or may not ever play safety, but he certainly has all the attributes to be safety. If he were playing free safety for the Saints that would free up Jenkins to play strong safety & not have to play single deep, which would then allow the Saints to cut bait with an EXTREMELY overrated Roman Harper. This move by itself would probably guarantee that the Saints go atleast one game deeper into the playoffs, since the sorry a$s play of Harper was a major contributor of our Seattle & San Fran losses.
I don't want to get into any deep debate about this because it's totally hypothetical, and a waste of time, but just as a follow up...being fearless and willing doesn't make up for lesser run stopping and tackling abilities and a lack of size to play certain positions in the NFL. And again, it would be a complete waste of Bentley's skill set. He is a pure CB, and I think he'll be a damn good one in the NFL. Former CBs that become safeties in the NFL are usually due to a lack of the necessary speed and quickness to play corner, and these converts are mostly very good, physical tacklers, and are always guys that are bigger than 5'10 and 180 lbs. Remember, safeties now have to cover this new brand of TEs that have burst on the scene. Can you imagine 5'10, 180 lb guys covering Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Jermichael Finley, Brandon Pettigrew, etc.? They get thrown around like rag dolls.
Do you plan on posting a practice observation today? Again, I'm really looking forward to reading what you see. And thanks in advance for doing it.
Why take a prototypical corner and make him a non-prototypical safety.
Makes less then zero sense.
Bentley was getting some good talk from nfl network guys as soon as he ran his first 40 time. One guy said for sure 2nd round. How awesome would it be Bentley and Green to go first 2 rounds!
And of course they get Bill's 40 time wrong on the website. They said he ran a 4.43 and they said Ron Brooks ran a 4.37. Bentley ran the 4.37 and Brooks ran a 4.35.
He did run a 4.43. That's his official time. All times they show during the broadcast are unofficial hand timed. Once everyone's done, they post the official numbers.
Again I ask about your prediction of the Defensive linemen that were freshmen this year---Weren't they right on the money???
