Thread: Confused

I'm a long time Cajun's baseball fan and so far this season I'm having a hard time making sense of the fact that our #3 hitter Strentz leads the team in strike outs and is hitting well below the Mendoza line. It just seems like he's getting many opportunities that other players aren't. Especially some of the Seniors that are looking to help out in their last year of action. Compton and Lenards are well deserving at hitting in the top of the line up but I can't say the same for Strentz. Please advise if you have any insight into this mentality.

    Sincerely,

    Frustrated Fan

Robe is probably basing his batting order on what these guys have shown over the course of the fall and preseason spring practices, rather than what theyve done in a few games to start the season. I would think that if Strentz's struggles were to continue that changes would be made. Basically, it's early.

Understandable that it's early in the season but why keep him at 3rd in the lineup if he's struggling. You're not helping him out by putting him that high in the order he'd be better down in the lineup where he could potentially see better pitches than you would in the 3 hole. It's early for everyone else too, I'd just like to see the same opportunity for others on the team.

Must be hurt, other wise he would be catching

I was really happy to see him come through late in the game. I've been thinking about the same thing though. Eventually, if he doesn't get over this hump, you've got to consider moving him in the order or putting T-Fred, or whoevers not playing between Jones, Butler, Nichols, etc into the DH spot.

I'd like to see more of T-Fred at some point and I'm sure we will. Compton has been a stud so far and is a valuable left hand bat, but T-Fred is versatile enough to see time every once in a while at 1B as well as in other positions and, as mentioned, maybe DH. I just like having his experience in the lineup.

When he was healthy enough to start at the beginning of the year, Sinclair was catching, though that was mainly due to our lack of fielding quality in the OF and surplus of good catchers. I've seen nothing to make me want to take Sinclair out yet, especially with his leadership and bat. As mentioned though, still very early and all of these guys will get chances to show their worth.

I'm confused....did we just complete a 3 game sweep and someone still has something to complain about?

He hasn't even been playing outfield, he has been at dh, I would think it's an arm injury on his throwing arm

You know what? It's early. Let's settle down. Someone early last week was giving up on the whole season already.

Yeah I know. It is his throwing arm per Robe. Probably just a little tender hopefully.

The OP could've approached the subject a little differently and it comes off as complaining, but I still think its a subject that we should be able to discuss. So let's not start getting on other fans for discussing ways that we can improve.

I would think a good bit of fans that attend every game, or most of them, think about this with each passing game. It's just about configuring lineups, rotations, etc in your head. Whether its who's at DH, Sunday starter, catcher, how we can use our players to their maximum potential. Maybe it's just me though, lol.

It shouldn't matter if we swept this weekend since the team is constantly evolving. If you can't see the room for improvement then I don't think you watched any games this weekend. That said, we improved with each game this week. How the team as a whole is doing and the season as a whole is a different discussion. And the fire Robe bunch are ridiculous, but this is different.

All that said, Strentz has great potential and it is extremely but he is still striking out too much currently. He just needs to keep at it.

Talking and thinking about this is what forums are for and what fans do.

If anyone who has ever been around college baseball long enough, you need to realize that some hitters need a little time to get the motor going offensively. Yes, Stentz has been struggling but he's a good enough athlete and competitor that things will sooner or later turn around. I do agree however about dropping him in the batting order. Compton and Leonards are on fire early. Do you think that will continue.................certainly not for the course of the season. Others will have to step up. This is a really young group with huge potential. They will be better than many of us thought. Bowmen is suddenly showing sign of life which is huge for the offense. Freshman Butler has shown signs of tremendous power. Conrad playing solid defense at 2B and learning the college game on offense. He will only get better with time. Ther'e a lot of young talent on this team and we as fans need to jump on the wagon now because the fun hasn't begun yet. Give this group a little time and we won't be disappointed.
