Since the basketball team is not going to make the NCAA tournament this year, I think they should just go ahead and redshirt Milsap this year.

Without more dephth Mouton and Dees will have to play so many minutes, they will be worn out as the season goes on. That is why Gray and Milsap need to play. Gray has been practicing the entire season and Coach says he is greatly improved.

If Gray shows up...and produces like he is capable of doing....Get the cargo space ready...A bunch of "nay-sayers" will be jumping on this band wagon! Adding another scoring threat will unlease the scoring beast in the dynamic scoring machine...aka David Dees....I think his best is remained to be seen! The same said for Ross "Da' boss" Mouton. With the steady improvement of Courtney Wallace...as well Valentino Hart...The sky is the limit for this club. I think Tennessee's Coach Pearl said it best...."the Cajuns are a very good basketball team...the just need to believe that they can win!"

UL's 88-69 loss at UL Monroe last Saturday was a milestone game for Elijah Millsap and not because the Cajun freshman was playing only a few miles from his Grambling hometown. It wasn't even because he had the best game of his brief collegiate career, posting a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Saturday's game marked the first time that the 6-foot-5 guard had played in as many games as he missed to start the season, and that's why Cajun coach Robert Lee pointed at his continued improvement earlier this week. Through the first half of the season, opposing teams had a definite plan to slow down the UL basketball team's offense - concentrate on David Dees and Ross Mouton. For the most part, that worked. The Cajuns take a 4-14 overall and a 2-6 Sun Belt Conference record into tonight's home contest against South Alabama, and other than that pair, only one other player is averaging more than five points per game. Through the first two months of UL's men's basketball season, the Cajuns' success rested squarely on the shoulders of Ross Mouton and David Dees. UL coach Robert Lee has been waiting for other players to step forward and make significant contributions, but the only other Cajun to do that on a consistent basis was freshman Elijah Millsap in the last eight games. The search for support took on desperate proportions over the weekend when Dees was sidelined with an injured ankle, but maybe the hunt is over after Saturday's 69-62 victory over Troy's Trojans. Millsap, Rhett Hebert and Derek Gray each contributed a double-figure scoring effort, and with Mouton's red-hot second-half shooting the Cajuns were able to snap a three-game loss streak. "This was as close as we've come to a true team win," Lee said. "I thought everyone we had did some good things, and everyone played well on the defensive end." LOUISIANA La. – Louisiana guard Elijah Millsap, who attended Grambling Lab High School, was named the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year. Millsap has seen action in 22 games with 17 starts and leads all freshmen in the conference in scoring (12.0 ppg.) and rebounding (7.2 rpg.). His rebounding total ranks fifth in the conference for all players. Millsap scored double figures 15 times out of 22 games played and pulled down at least five rebounds 16 times hitting double figures seven times. Millsap had a string of 12 straight games scoring double digits from Dec. 28 through Feb. 8. In 18 Sun Belt games played in, he scored double figures 15 times. While I would have redshirted him (right or wrong?) I just want to say he exceeded my wildest expectations.

Everything I had heard preseson was that Elijah was going to be good but not as good as his brother who was just (at the time) drafted. So I guess the reports tended to lower my expectations.

I still think I would have redshirted him though, and that is why I would not make a good coach. I would always be planning 5 years down the road, and that is a sure way to get myself fired.

Paul and Elijah Millsap don't get to spend a lot of time together, and when they do it's usually on the basketball floor. That's where the brothers were Thursday, when NBA player Paul spoke at Robert Lee's UL youth basketball camp. Younger brother Elijah, a sophomore member of the UL squad, was wrapping up his week as a camp staffer. "We don't have Christmas or Thanksgiving or days like that, so our time is during the summer," said Paul Millsap Thursday. "He comes up to Utah and works out with us some." The elder Millsap completed his first NBA season in the spring after a stellar career at La. Tech, not far from the brothers' Grambling hometown. The Utah Jazz' second round draft pick and the 47th overall player picked, Paul Millsap made the NBA All-Rookie second team and missed the first team by one vote in balloting of the 30 NBA coaches. Louisiana men’s basketball player Elijah Millsap, a native of Grambling, enters his sophomore season with the Ragin’ Cajuns in 2007-08. As a freshman last season, he took the Sun Belt Conference by storm, earning the league’s Freshman of the Year honor. Millsap averaged 12.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for the Cajuns in 2006-07.   What personal goals have you set for yourself heading into this season? I want to get as many assists as I can to make my team better. We are surrounded by a lot of young talent and I want to get them more involved in the game as much as I can.   What’s it like being on a team with 13 players from your home state of Louisiana? Knowing that all these guys come from Louisiana gives us a solid chemistry because we all have similar backgrounds. I have seen most of these guys play basketball in high school so I know what they are capable of doing.   What is one thing most people don’t know about you? I am an outspoken person, but I don’t show it vocally. I show it by my actions on the court because when I am on the court, I let my emotions speak for me.   What is it like growing up in a basketball family? It has made me a better overall basketball player. I have seen a lot of basketball, so it has made me a much smarter player not just playing the game, but also knowing the game.   Years I have been playing basketball: since the seventh grade   What made me want to play basketball? I was raised in Colorado where football is popular. When I came to Louisiana, the first high school I attended didn’t have football because it was a small school. So, I watched my oldest brother John play basketball and he was a really good player so I got with the program.   My favorite place to play basketball last season: I heard a lot about Western Kentucky’s E.A. Diddle Arena. The atmosphere was great and it is one of the top arenas in the Sun Belt Conference.   My most memorable moment as a freshman: was when we went on a win streak towards the end of the season. We are start playing great basketball and things were finally falling into place for us.   My favorite professional basketball player is: my brother Paul (who plays for the NBA’s Utah Jazz)   My favorite sports figure: Kobe Bryant   Major and why I chose it: Business Management because I want to own my business after I finish playing basketball   My role model and why: My mother is my role model because she raised all four of us by herself. She is a strong lady for doing that and we try the best to give back to her.   My favorite pre-game meal: chicken tenders   If I didn’t play basketball, I would: probably be playing football as a wide receiver.   My advice to young basketball players is: to go out and get what you want. You can talk about the things you want, but they don’t mean anything unless you do something to get there.   The best thing about the University is: the fan base. They come out and support us every game.   Why did you choose to play basketball at UL: I heard about the city of Lafayette and I have a very supportive uncle who lives here. Plus, Coach Lee is a great coach.   Best advance you ever received: Never give up.   My favorite moment in sports history: My favorite moment was when I was playing in the Top 28 Tournament at the Cajundome in my senior year of high school.   My favorite place at UL: Student Union.   Why did I choose #3? Tennessee's basketball fans will get their first look at Louisiana-Lafayette's Elijah Millsap this evening ... and so will Tennessee's basketball players. Millsap sat out last year's game with the Vols but the home-standing Ragin' Cajuns nearly pulled off the upset even without him. They trailed by just two points with 4:24 left before ultimately losing 77-67. Once Millsap joined the team, he provided immediate impact, winning Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year recognition for 2006-07. He seems to be picking up where he left off in 2007-08. Elijah Millsap, whose brother Paul plays for the NBA's Utah Jazz, is leading ULL in scoring (17.8 points per game) and rebounding (7.8 per game) as a sophomore this season. At 6-6 and 211-pounds, he'll probably be matched up against Tennessee's Tyler Smith when the Vols and Cajuns collide tonight at 7:30 in Thompson-Boling Arena. Millsap has been pretty much the whole show for Lafayette, which stands 1-3 after suffering a 78-72 loss to Alabama Birmingham on Tuesday night. The Cajuns' next-best player is 6-5 guard David Doss, who is second on the team in both points (10.0) and rebounds (5.5). UL's other starters are 6-9, 240-pound Abray Milson (3.0 points, 3.8 rebounds), 6-7, 209-pound La'Ryan Gary (5.8 points, 2.0 rebounds) and 6-1, 182-pound Willie Lago (3.0 points, 2.5 assists).
