I know many of you will disagree with me but I have mixed feelings regarding our Baseball Program. On the one hand, Robichaux has built a program by that I mean he has loyal fan support which is not that easy to do. People are loyal to him and his team however, every year I get excited for the program and the new recruits but we never seem to really turn the corner. Maybe I expect too much but we do not hit with power except on rare occasions and we only have exceptional pitching every few years. We never put it all together and just when I am about to give up Robichaux's teams they do just enough to keep people interested. I guess I would rather have a respectable program than not but I wish his teams would be more exciting and more dependable more often like the 2000 team. I am beginning to think the man can't really recruit well.

How often should the Cajuns be in the CWS, Super Regional, Regional for you to be satisfied with the program?

    Not disparaging just asking honestly.

So many things to discuss but I'll touch on just one for now. NOBODY in the NCAA's is hitting for power. Last years change in bats made sure of that.

I respect both of your opinions. After I made my post I thought it must not be easy to recruit well in college baseball because of the system. It seems that almost all of Robichaux's recruits only play college ball because they can not get drafted high enough so they go to college to get more experience and the first chance they get - they are gone. It must be difficult to put a team together under those circumstances. It makes you wonder if you should look at these players the same way as players in other sports. I know players in other sports would do the same thing if they could but it seems it is more obvious in Baseball. I wonder what the chances of a player making pro is in Baseball from the college ranks. Not very high I would think. I suppose these players do not ever consider what they will do if pro baseball doesn't work out for them. I guess its not for me to say afterall it is their lives. To answer your question CWS once every 5 years. Regionals every other year.

I know you didn't ask this of me, but I'll respond anyway.

IMO the Canuns should be in a regional 4 out of 5 years. I don't expect a SR or CWS (although I would love to see them), but I do EXPECT regular regional play. I respect Robe as much as anyone, but people need to remember that this program had success before he arrived (I know Bollinger was a bad guy). I don't anticipate a regional this year due to the youth, but that should not be an excuse for a .500 or sub .500 club. Even without a regional, I expect the record to be well above .500.

First of all, it's only the 3rd freakin game of the year. Secondly, I'd love to see us in regionals 4 out of 5 years. But consider this -- 3 or 4 Sunbelt teams make regionals each year. So if the Cajuns are to make it 4 out of 5, that would usually have to finish in the top 5 or so in the Belt almost every year. I know that OOC games also come into play in regional selection, but Belt play is a good indicator...and it is strong enough that no team can go year to year without some down years in there.

When I look at it that way, 4 out of 5 isn't easy.

Stop talking.... that kind of expectation is ridiculous even for a power conference in college baseball. 8 out of 200+ teams make it every year. You are saying that every recruiting class should make the world series once. We would have no problem with recruiting if we could make that kind of promise.

And how many regional appearances do they have in the last couple of years?

Fellas, the landscape of the game has changed significantly since the years when we were making regionals/super regionals. Roster limitations, bats, transfer rules, more emphasis on the draft etc etc all have a part in this. Baseball is a different game all together. idk if I agree with the "can't recruit" comment either. Trahan has done a great job pulling us out of all the "misses" that schefz had his last 2 years here. the expectation of a regional 4 out of 5 years is great but I don't know how attainable that is for a mid major anymore . I mean lsu even stayed home last year
