The place with that price range would be Bayou Shadows, nice sized apts, cheap rent, not far from the Cajun Field bus stop and about 2 miles from campus. Its on Congress. There might be few places down College with that type of price range.

Thanks for the info. What is that area like and is it a safe neighborhood? I will not be able to visit before moving so I am going to have to rely on photos and other peoples recommendations.

Actually, it is a rather large apartment complex, i couldn't tell you how many rooms, but i'm almost certain its one of the biggest in town. Its relatively close to grocery stores, a few fast food and sit down restaurants. If you love athletics or working out, its very close to those complexes on campus. I have friends that live there and I can ask what they pay. I know they have 1, 2, and 3 bed apts. The area is pretty safe, there is an isolated incident every once a while, but its not the bad part of town by any means.

It's a fairly old complex built around the mid to late 70's. I've attached the link to the site that will probably give you more info. It is walking distance from the sports complex, with the university medical center, a few restaurants and a Rouse's grocery store also in walking distance.

I've had a few friends live there. These apts are a little old, but really don't feel as old as they are. One of the best values that you'll get in the Cajun Field area as far as $/sq. ft. IMO

Are there any graduates on here that could provide some information on the PE program? I am considering UL as well as a few other schools (including LSU) and would like to know what the schools reputation in the industry is like and whether or not the school has good contacts within the field. Is it easy to find a job post graduation? I know many of the other schools I have looked at have touted 98-100% placement rates. It should be noted that I am an adult student switching careers. Is the school and the area welcoming to non-traditionals like myself? Thanks in advance for all of the help.

I'm considering LSU, Colorado School of Mines, and even a few in Texas. I wanted to ask how your experience has been so far at the UL? How difficult is the curriculum? Also, how are the research opportunities and career placement opportunities (internships, etc.) there from your own experience? I am not sure about post grad rankings but the under grad PE program is ranked #8 in the country. So I would assume that the post grad department is very strong as well.

Cajunsmike and I both work here at a major in Lafayette and are on the recruiting team to hire engineers. We have hired several PEs with masters from UL. I'm not certain about the rate for master's graduates but I believe the undergrad program has managed to place 100% of the PE grads upon graduation in recent years. I know it has been a competitive market with numerous candidates we offered having several offers from competitors.

If you can get accepted and afford Colorado school of mines go there. You'll have your pick of what job you want. Jmo
