Young man all Lafayette neighborhoods are safe! A great kudos for Laf is the safeness of the demographics! Not much crime to speak of in the area!

  2. UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Re: Any Petroleum Engineering guys here to help him make up his mind?

There is no place more fun than UL and Lafayette. At LSU you will have to join a fraternity or have friends in place. I have spent a great deal of my life in Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans Metro. No doubt Lafayette is the friendliest town of them all. Lafayette has a real culture work, fun, and family based not a created one. I think your next four years could be the best of your life at UL.

Baton Rouge is a large and growing city, but not friendly at all because many of its residents have been there one or less generations, more are native to Missississipi beleive it or not than one would expect. Now Baton Rouge is also a pretty town, and LSU is a beautiful campus no doubt. Baton Rouge also is a dangerous town, and has had many infamous murders of the state in the last two decades. I must also admit that Baton Rouge has gotten a lot friendlier in the last decade than when I lived there. Still not close to Lafayette.

New Orleans is a great friendly place, but is dangerous to just hang around.

Your degree at UL will get you as far as your abilities will take you, and there is a valid network of UL graduates who can help you get started.

Costs are going to be a lot greater in Baton Rouge, don't know about the out of state fees, but in state tuition at LSU is about a third more. But you get to watch the tiger sleep in it's four million dollar natural habitat.

Everything sounds great. UL is number one on the list and the niceness and helpfulness of all of you guys has a lot to do with it. Hopefully my experience on this board will be indicative of my experience at UL.

Glad you are gonna become a Ragin' Cajun, Medic! Welcome to a great town and a great university! Where are you coming from? I assume by your handle you may be a prior service member? If so, which branch?

For those that don't know , if he were associated with the Marines he would be a corpsman or as His Extremely Deluxe Self Barry would say a "corpse man".
