Thread: ROUX: Local Paper comes up dry

  1. UL Basketball ROUX: Local Paper comes up dry

I don't know, perhaps I'm all wet, but it seems to me the local paper keeps coming up dry. No juice.

I guess with a college in another town making a run to the final 4, it can somehow be forgiven that the local paper failed to report the final recruits for Louisiana's 2006 football signing class.

In case you missed it they were OL Nassar Jamal from Canada, DB Junior Jean from Florida, and WR Marlin Miller from Texas

To my way of thinking though, nothing can account for the failure in not announcing the local Universities signees yesterday in basketball. I mean there was only one local story in the sports section that being the recent baseball loss to a college in still another town.

In case you missed it, according to various sources (not the local paper) they are; Randall Daigle: Northside HS, and 4-A State Champ 6'0. Tyren Johnson: West St. Johns HS, 6'7 G/F. Elijah Milsap: Grambling HS, 6'5 2G/F

Describing the Daily Advertiser as "Dry" is being too nice.

When it comes to local sports coverage in particular, the DA sucks, plain and simple.

I wonder about this too. I suspect the university is holding the announcement until the entire signing class is complete. I would not hold the Advertiser at fault for this. Why the football signings have not been announced is a question I can't answer.

Signings are not even listed on www.ragincajuns.com. Makes you kinda want to say (Arsenio Hall) "Hmmmm".

This is not unusual. Our basketball classes are not usually posted until they have everyone they want.

I agree but The Daily Advertiser should be renamed the Daily Quickquarter. I don't ever remember seeing so much advertising in the sports section as now. It is like money is more important than reporting world, national, state and local sports. Kevin maybe needs to spend more time at the paper and less time at his radio job. The DA sucks for sports. Remember it is owned by Gannett news organization, a canadian company I have been told. Good to know our money is supporting another foreign country.
