Thread: Errol Rogers

  1. Default Re: Errol Rogers and the search for a replacement

The funny/ironic thing (to me) without benifit of Carr research, both Hudspeth and Marlin were organically suggested here by posters.

I wish we had done it for the Marlin hire but for the Hud hire (when we didn't even know the short list) we did a poll and Hud came out first with the most positives and he came out last with the fewest negatives . . . and while that sounds logical, it isn't automatic. Ed Orgeron had the 2nd highest positive ranking, but also had the #1 negative ranking.

Also womens basketball, you have to know the local coaches in Acadiana and in Texas, Houston and Dallas areas. Brodhead has that covered... I will be fine with whoever they hire, but when they hire some one else and its GAY NIX or ERROL ROGERS again, gonna look pretty stupid... Brodhead is the best fit for the job, better than Kelly Hall, and he wont run off for greener pastures after a couple successfull season, he will be hear a long time...

Just hire some one that will get it done... whoeve it is
I'm affraid your right on the budget, we simply may not attract anyone other then someone local who is willing to work under those conditions.

I was one of the few pumping Hudspeth from day one Turbine. Orgeron was the favorites until his named was removed, bottomline Carr did exactly what they get paid to do.

So I'm thinking $100K to $150K range is the estimated budget for a head Coach? Where does that fall in competitive offers for an up & coming head coach from another Div1 or Juco coach?

Now that is a good reason to take a chance on him being a diamond in the rough. We simply do not have the dollars, or status to get a proven head coach at the 1A level.

    POKEY CHATMAN!!!

She didn't break NCAA rules just got caught up in a "love affair". I bet she could have the same impact JKH had and she may be ready to get back in the game.

I wouldn't worry about the salary. $125-140 would put us right about in the middle of the Sun Belt. Our assistant package is already solid within the league.

We'll be able to hire a very good coach for this kind of money.

I have no dog in the hunt. I trust Scott to make a good hire. Football, basketball and the new SID are all solid.

Considering our less than stellar past as a program do we need better than a coach who we can hire for a middle of the pack salary? Football, and basketball were never ever in the total dumps for nearly as long as this basketball program. Granted football was in freefall, but still had some goodwill left over from the Jake Delhomne era.

Brad, you make some great points here. I, like you, do think there is a parallel with this hire and the previous softball hire. I believe that a Broahead hire would be as credit worthy or more than the Lotief hire was in softball and look how good that turned out. As Express said, one was a great player here and the other was an amateur coach but Broadhead has coached on both levels albeit not a head coach in college. However, what do we have to lose with that hire if it comes down to it? The softball tradition had been established with Yvette and the women's tradition is dark and gloomy to say the least. He would have no previous landmarks to live up to as JKH was unfortunately not here long enough to establish this program. Gary wants to be here and I agree that he would be here for a long time regardless of success.

Couldn't disagree more with this statement.

We had no goodwill left over from Delhomme in football. What we had was a program who hadn't been to a bowl game and a program where no head coach, after being fired, had ever coached again ANYWHERE until Bustle was hired by Tulane.

We had an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament in women's basketball just five years ago.

A middle of the pack salary in this league will do fine. And it will be twice as much as we paid Kelley Hall when he first got here.

Memo to Getthefactsfirst: Track was so-so? LOL... Badeaux has three kids in the indoor national championships in his first year. Depth will come with time, and we will be better outdoors than indoors. Maybe you should follow your name's advice.
