Cole Stafford Signs Track Scholarship with Louisiana

Gonzales, La. — Catholic High School Senior Cole Stafford, a Gonzales native, has signed to run cross country and track at the University of Louisiana.

Stafford is a three-year varsity letterman and has received numerous honors in both cross country and track.

Also signed Scott Brewster from St Paul's in Covington. Scott is an outstanding young man from a great family who has run near or under 15 minutes in the 3 mile (usually a few seconds behind Cole) in cross country, and runs near 50 in the 400, 1:55 ish in the 800, and just ran a 4:20 in the 1600.

He, Christian Bergeron, Zach Albright, and my son - Nicholas - have broken the state record in the 4X800 relay twice in the past three week. Friday at the Nokia Sugar Bowl Invitational they broke the meet record (and state record) with a 7:57. That puts them in the National Elite First Team. I am, obviously, the proud father of a sophmore runner who is also eying UL, Loyola, Ole Miss -- but NOT LSU (he has been well-ruined on that notion by me).

I see his father regularly at the meets and he is ALWAYS sporting UL hats, shirts etc.

Nice. The Northshore is loaded with UL alumns. Unfortunately, up until the last couple of years our administration had done a really ____ poor job of making them feel wanted. Thats all changing now.

I love the way the signing was worded at St Paul. It went something like this, University of Louisiana located in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Also love these young people choosing UL to spend the next four to five years of their lives with. It will be a great relatiionship for the school and the players.

How is it "all changing now?"

I have lived on the Northshore (in Mandeville) for over 8 years, and I have seen nothing new.
There are a few of us who regularly fly the Ragin Cajun Flag on weekends and travel to Lafayette for sports, but other than that there is almost NO UL interest that I can see from the university......
