McNeese backed out last year, but there was no signed contract, just a verbal agreement. The AD decided not to follow through because their coaching staff didn't want to play the game.

Although buffalo is the bottom of the MAC and probably not as good as NWST or Mcneese, it's a better win for the program. Lord knows the Sunbelt needs all the D-1 non conference wins possible and this could be one.
Although part of me says that I'd rather play NSU or McCheese than Buffalo (we can probably count the number of fans that Buffalo will bring on one hand and either NSU or MSU would be a better opponent), another part of me says that you're probably right.

The Sun Belt needs to improve it's standing from last amongst DI-A conferences. The next one up on the list from us is the MAC. The only way to be perceived as being better than them is to beat them. And the only way to beat them is to play them.

  6. UL Football Ohio U. drops game with UL

In what is a recurring problem, the University of Louisiana is again looking to fill a hole in its 2006 football schedule.

The Ragin' Cajuns' scheduled Sept. 16 home game against Ohio University apparently won't happen, since the 2006 schedule displayed on Ohio's web site shows a Sept. 16 road game at Rutgers.

UL media relations director Daryl Cetnar said that, to his knowledge, Ohio has not officially contacted Cajun interim athletic director David Walker to inform him that the Bobcats had dropped UL from its schedule.

"They haven't bothered to get in touch with us," Cetnar said.

UL has now been forced to make late-spring schedule adjustments four times since the 2000 season, due to schools pulling out of games or changing conference affiliations.

Ohio and UL had contracted for the game last fall as part of a home-and-home series. A Nov. 7, 2005, Ohio release announced the UL game along with a game against Missouri and a future game with Ohio State, as well as UL's return game in Athens, Ohio, in 2007.

Cetnar said that Walker had sent a letter to Ohio athletic director Kirby Hocutt last week stating that the Bobcats were in breach of contract and requesting a payout of the contract's cancellation penalty clause within seven days, as stated in the contract.
