I heard a rumor involving Dwayne and the Suns. Anybody have anything to back that up?

An erroneous medical diagnosis contributed heavily to former University of Louisiana basketball standout Dwayne Mitchell not being selected in the NBA Draft, according to Mitchell's agent.
Darren White, agent for the New Orleans native and All-Louisiana and All-Sun Belt selection, said that false information on a possible heart condition caused teams to both bypass Mitchell in the draft and deny him the chance to play on NBA summer league teams.
"I know that information wasn't intended to be harmful," White said Monday, "but it put him in a situation where he hasn't found a home."
Mitchell, who led the Ragin' Cajuns in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals last season - the first player ever to lead UL in all four categories - went through a physical at the NBA's pre-draft camp in Orlando.
Unbeknownst to Mitchell and White, one doctor's written evaluation stated that Mitchell showed evidence of Wolf-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a disease involving electrical fibers in the heart that can lead to irregular or rapid heart rates.
"If this was a cardiac matter, someone should have been notified," White said. "This wasn't shin splints."
Mitchell has since had a second examination, including tests done by the Cardiology Center of Lafayette and Lafayette's Dr. Jon D. Leleux.

This is so unfair to a good player and a good guy. But even more than unfair, it is dangerous and wreckless of the NBA to not inform Dwayne that they found he had a heart condition. Even if it was a misdiagnosis shouldn't the doctor see it as his duty to report this to the player or his agent. What if it wasn't a misdiagnosis and Dwayne had a heart attack, could the NBA be found culpible. I want to see dwayne doing his thing in the pros but it sure seems like they are giving him the cold shoulder. I am really aggravated and frustrated by this, but I can't imagine how Dmitchell is feeling right now. If there are lawyers reading this, can he file any legal action against the NBA? If he could have gotten a second opinion to refute the misdiagnosis he may have been drafted thus increasing his earnings potential.

Makes me think that the doctor in Orlando was a Florida Gator fan / alumnus / supporter.Originally Posted by NewsCopy

Dr. George (big Yankee fan) called SportsNote Radio this morning and stated there is no misdiagnosing Wolf-Parkinson-White Syndrome or as he lovingly called it WPW.
Either you have it or you don't, it doesn't hide from 1 EKG to another.
This would explain why no NBA team would ask for a 2nd opinion.

the problem with any potential legal action is the fact that D. Mitchell was borderline at best to say whether he would be drafted. I love the guy and think he has NBA potential, but he wasn't a top notch prospect. If he was, you can be sure teams wouldn't have just dismissed him b/c of the diagnosis - there would have been second and third and tenth opinions. I'm not sure how far DM would get saying that if it was not for the misdiagnosis he would've been drafted. That simply was not a guarantee. If he was under contract and got released based on the diagnosis - then we have a different story. I hope he gets a shot because I'm sure he won't disappoint. Hang in there DM and we're all rooting for you.
