Thread: Tracking the Preaux Career of UL's Dwayne Mitchell

  1. UL Basketball Tracking the Preaux Career of UL's Dwayne Mitchell

Dwayne's average his senior year at Louisiana: 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 turnovers, 5-10 FG, 5-10 FT

Dwayne Mitchell, a 6’5 point guard out of Louisiana-Lafayette, is looking to catch on with an NBA team the same way his former teammate, Boston Celtic Orien Greene, did in last year’s draft. Mitchell used all of his athleticism and length to put on a show at both ends of the floor, certainly standing out from the rest in many regards. He dropped the jaws of everyone in the gym with one tremendous alley-oop dunk in the first half, which was a pure display of power and athleticism. Mitchell spent much of the game showing off his impressive dribble penetration, getting into the lane at will. Once in the lane, he used his great body control and length to create in mid-air, though he had some problems finishing at the basket. In terms of point guard skills, Mitchell had some bumps, but also had a few good passes both in the half-court and on the break. He also looked very impressive on the break in general, getting ahead of the pack, quickly changing directions when needed, and finishing well. On the down side, he didn’t show any range on his shot, which is a major concern for him. He did hit one mid-range jumper, but was hesitant whenever given the chance at a long-range shot, passing all of his opportunities up. His free-throw shooting is equally as bad, averaging an abysmal 59% from the line on the year.

On the defensive end, Mitchell showed the ability to be a lockdown defender with his outstanding length and frame, to go along with the quickness to stay in front of opposing point guards. He also showed off his good hands, netting two steals on the night and pestering opponents on a few other occasions. He rebounded well, too, going out of his way on a few occasions to pull in some of his five boards. Mitchell looked like one of the more impressive players out there today because of the athleticism and upside he showed. As a 6-5 point guard he’s going to get some serious looks in the 2nd round if he can maintain his level of play from today.

I think coach Lee will have his first FULL year this year in recruiting and will be able to boast three (3) players in the NBA and one in Europe several as coaches and more that most with good grades now!!!!

ps Also, he can have them look across the street at the Indoor Practice Facility to practice ANYTIME they want. Also, soon there will be a ground breaking on the Weight Room Doubling in size to 13000sqft!

Last year the NBA pre-draft camp was held at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. Many NBA GM's wanted to move the camp from downtown Chicago, IL.

The NBA pre-draft camp will be June 6-10... There will be a total of six teams with 10 to 11 players a team.

A total of 64 players so far... 22 of the players on the pre-draft rosters played at the PIT tournament this spring in VA... There will be 16 underclassmen, 42 Div-1 seniors, and 4 International players in camp.

At this time Mitchell and Southall are expected to be on the same team at camp... The only other player selected to participate at the pre-draft camp from Louisiana is 6'7 PF Paul Milsap from Louisiana Tech...

We all know that Paul younger brother signed with the Cajuns basketball program this spring... Milsap agent is Lafayette native and ex- Holy Rosary basketball star, Raymond Brothers....

    See you all later!

Honey they have shrunk Dwayne Mitchell!!! He is down to 6 feet 3 and a 1/4 inches.

However since he left UL all reports and whatever the situation he has been consistently called "the most athletic" of anyone around him.

His role will not to be a shooter. He will have a similar role to Orien.

By the way, Orien can't hit a long range jump shot but he is making a lot of money.

Orien can play point and is playing point, Dwayne won't be playing point unless he improves his ball handling. Oriene has always had a nice shot, it just needed a few minor tweaks and the pro's have perfected it. He finally has strong healthy legs and he is becoming what we saw glimpses of when he played for the cajuns. My opinion...Dwayne will be a role player who will play good D and grab rebounds. I'm as anxious as anyone to see him get invited to a camp and make a team. (and perfect his jump shot)

I'm waiting with my fingers crossed.

  11. UL Basketball Dwayne Mitchell called "freak of the industry"

(Denham Brown) had a number of pretty feeds including one to "freak of the industry" teammate Dwayne Mitchell for a monster dunk. Mitchell finished with 12 points on 5/8 shooting. . . .

Day 2..."Dwayne Mitchell had the dunk of the day off a steal after Allen Ray slipped to the court, Carl Krauser found him with a lob which had a number of scouts buzzing. Maybe even more impressive was his ability to control a lob which he missed the dunk attempt but the pass was up above the top of the square. Mitchell's arms and upper body look something fit for a defensive lineman, think Julius Peppers, not a basketball guard."
