Thread: I'm Sorry, But…..

  1. Default Re: I'm Sorry, But…..

I know the shooting situation----but just think of the individual shows that on given nights different guys have put on----Josh, JJ, Raymone, McClellan, Bum Bum a loo, and AMT have had perfect and almost perfect 3 point nights---We just need to put all of these shows together on the same night-----Can you say regionals!!!! What is the story on Perez?????

Perez had a great night vs UCF

The UALR game two threes in less than a half minute were tough shots. To make one would be good, to make both, it just isn't your night, but still if we do the simple and make free throws at our season average in that stretch no loss. Again in the ASU game we have a tough shot made, again free thows needed the whole game.

Someone commented that he was pretty sure it was mostly the other team making threes vs us to close a game. It matters not one bit, I prefer my team to be in the lead most of the times. UL has a very high rank in three point defense so it is a big aberation for those shots to hit when there is pressure. They made um that is not the main reason we lost those games.

Bingo we have a winner if we shoot free throws we win that game and possible a few other games that might be close. For some reason kids today can not shoot free throw. Fundamentals

Sometimes BOP is on the money and sometimes not---However his take on free throw shooting is one that is undoubtedly a fact----good shooters are good free throw shooters------Wait maybe BOP is always on the money?????

You all should be ashamed. Our conference record is third best in the ENTIRE conference. Marlin does not play his kid 30+ minutes so that limits points scored. Why you all drag our kids down try appreciating them for the work they do. Alll of you cry for a point guard you need to realize how Marlins offense runs and that he calls the sets and who is to score! Unless it is transistion the sets are determined.
I don't think anyone meant to slam any particular player by pointing out shortcomings. You cannot argue we turn it over too much, shoot too low a FT %, and do not have a CONSISTENT outside scoring threat. We are generally a good rebounding team but occasionally give up some due to too much emphasis on shot blocking. On the positive side we play good defense generally. Raymone is outstanding in that regard but did struggle some last Thurs. night. We also play very hard and generally play as a team by trying to go to the hot guy. The only point people were trying to make is that people are confident the program is headed in the right direction under Coach Marlin's guidance. Of course the players deserve credit for achieving a winning record to this point. I do agree that Coach deserves some of the responsibility for the T he recieved on Thursday night. Note the official who called it seems to be a little thin skinned. He told Coach to step back. Coach was backing up but at such a slow pace the official was not satisfied. That did not call for a technical in my opinion. No doubt those two points we gave up on the T were a big factor in the loss.

It is not fundamentals that is causing the FT problems. It is a mental issue with the guys. Many of them are due to having a guy 17 years old having to handle a huge amount of pressure. He responded against Denver and ASU at the line. He struggled against UALR and felt so bad he was shooting free throws the same night with only the cleaning crew in the building.

Mike, that is REALLY good to hear. I believe this young man will be an outstanding player in the SBC once he matures into the college game. He is really smooth handling the ball, and his length makes him both an excellent defender and hard to defend. It is great to hear that his work ethic and sense of responsibility match his potential.

I like the way our team is headed
next year we lose a couple key players in darshawn and josh brown
but i think they are replaced easy
we will get a healthy jj to go along with shawn long and kadeem...so that's a huge upgrade from what we have

elfrid will be alot better next year, money mone is coming back and mbabalou so we have very solid guard play

Kentawn should slide into the 3... And i see him playing at josh's current level

Not to mention pancake coming off the bench as the 8th man in the rotation and i think darnell Jackson can be a solid 9th guy off the bench

Our future is bright, our team will continue to progress under the tutelage of marlin

Doing what it takes (buying time) to practice in the same building he plays in.

IMO, his technical was a wash because they had 2 intentional fouls called. Difference was they made the 2 free throws, we missed all 4...

I am new to Lafayette and enjoy sports. I have attended all the home games and really enjoy the Cajuns. I had to comment becasue there are a few things I have seen. This whole thread is bad because the way it started if we did not have all that that was said we would have nothing. I feel it was saying that we suck. First off we have a better team than you all are giving them credit for. There record is third best in our conference. Second I think that we are putting too much on the freshman who is very turnover prone he has more turnovers than assists and they seem to come at bad times. I would love to see our offense actually move. Just from watching it I could defend it with any team in the conference. It is very predictable and the players do not appear to have much freedom to create unless the coach calls it. The defense depends on Andrews and Bryant (dont want try last name) to shut down the scorers and Colby and Brown to block shots. Other than that they do not move very well. Thomas I understand was a beast last year and I was ready to watch but the knee has him right now. He is a liability on defense because he does not move well. I think that Kentwan will be good he is raw now. AMT is a scorer but does not defend well. Our size alone should dominate the boards but we do not block out or the defense has us out of position but something is keeping us from rebounding well. Oh and not having Darshawn in the game against UALR was a killer. He would have been a game changer because he would have been a match up problem.

Lastly, I think Coach Marlin is a good coach. I would say that I agree that in a few games I have seen better coaching decisions would have made a difference. I am an arm chair coach as some of you say on here but I always heard coming up playing football and baseball that players win and coaches lose. Maybe its a little of both but I can tell you the blame for winning and losing goes to the TEAM- coaches, players and even us fans who show up sometimes but not all the time.
