Globe roller walks the country, in Acadiana

One man is on a mission to show the world his own little world, now rolling down Highway 90.
They call him the world guy and he's walking through every state in the country promoting exercise and raising awareness for diabetes and he's not hard to spot.

Frank Sinatra sang it back in 1953, he's got the World on a String. Now, Kentucky's Erik Bendl is bringing those words to life. He's really does have a six-foot globe attached to a string, rolling it across the country.

He's been north to Cheboygan, Wisconsin, south to Muskogee, Oklahoma through Fargo, North Dakota and now, in Acadiana. He's walking every step, pushing ten-miles a day with his dog "Nice" and the globe.

"He's having a ball!" An onlooker yelled.

"I'm having a ball!" The World Guy yelled back. "You're the third person in 4,000-miles that said that."

The World Guy is trekking across the country to promote exercise.

"I've done five different walks, now I'm walking to Texas," he said.

Bendl says exercise is essential to preventing and reducing the risk of diabetes.

"I lost my grandmother, my mother, my uncle has had diabetes for more than half of his life," Bendl said. "If I can juggle the world, the world's guard dog and a thousand cars a day down a 70-mph highway, everyone needs to get out there and walk."

And as the song goes, life really is a beautiful thing.

"When you see me, I'll just be walking," he said.

On Friday, the World Guy will be walking to Franklin before making his way up to Lafayette over the next week.
