I did find myself pulling for them. All the louisiana products on the team is great, the only problem I have is that we will never hear the end of this from the LSU fans who have little or no class. Regardless, I'm happy for the players, and I hope they bring another national championship to the state.

I would love to say the same but I work with some of the most obnoxious LSUA&M fans and I find myself hoping they get stomped.

I have a situation very different to that as my boss and a few of my friends are very big LSU fans, but at the same time want to see the cajuns do well. I guess this has made me mellow to the entire situation, and made me realize that the athletes on the court had nothing to do with anything bad LSU has done to us in the past.

Man I can assure you that there is enough talent in this state every year to support three high calibre teams. You get outside help to round out the team. We only need to get any 5 of the top 15 players in this state year end and year out to have a really healthy program.
Yes, but you know our great state and friends up the road would never let more than one high caliber team exist in this state!

It's just the purple-and-gold jerseys they wear that represents so many bad feelings which makes for the pepcid moments.
Amen to that. Great Post! Preach on.

I went to HS in North Louisiana and began my college career at lsu. I had no real ties to Lafayette or the university there. Only after I transferred to then-USL, after being on the receiving end of many undeserved put-downs (some subtle, some not) of my new choice in higher education, and seeing how we almost always seemed to be out-manuevered by the political powers in BR, that I had enough of the bullying tactics. Then I began to resent lsu, or at least many of the supporters of the school. Thus I, too, had an "agonizing time watching" last night. I am happy for the players. I know from experience that there are many fine lsu fans who are genuinely glad when we have success. I think you may be that kind of fan. I was apprehensive about you when you first came on this board, but you've changed my mind as you've mellowed a bit. I hope your daughter is enjoying her time at UL. My son is a senior at UL and is loving it. I would love to see the day when Tigers and Cajuns cheered for each other regularly (when we weren't playing each other naturally). Unfortunately, I don't think that day is right around the corner for most of us. I know a few folks who go to BR and wear purple, then come to Lafayette and wear red. Those folks are a rare breed.
Great post, I too would like to be able to pull for LSU but I hate the way that so many supporters of that school are so obnoxiously rude to those from other in state schools. I am a UL Alum who is currently in grad school at UNO and I attended LSU last semester after Katrina. I had an oppurtunity to stay at LSU but the way i was looked down upon by most (not all but most) of the people there is the reason i came back to New Orleans.

My family is originally from West Virginia and I still have alot of contact with that state. Most everyone there is either a WVU or Marshall fan with about an 80/20 ratio in favor of WVU. When the two schools go heads up you definitely pick sides, but otherwise most fans usually cheer for the other school, since they see them both as a represenative of the state. I wish we could have that same relationship in Louisiana as well.

'other in state schools.' i don't know a SINGLE mcneese fan that hates lsu. nor a single tech fan. nor a hammond fan. tulane yes, but understanably so. but you guys have quite a congregation. of course i see more ul fans, living in lafayette, but my profession places me in situations where i'm frequently around grads of almost all the state schools. clearly, feelings are set in stone on this issue. so, watch 'em next weekend and enjoy pulling against them--it won't affect the game's outcome, just as my pulling for them won't help in the long run either. and, after all, the odds of them winning are not good, and you bitters will probably have the last and longest cheer next sat or mon [i so hope it's monday, as we've already lost 3 semis--never been to the championship game]. gotta say tho', just getting this far has been alot of fun for me. unlike so many of you however, i'll also get alot [less, admittedly] of fun out of watching the lady cajuns go far in the cws.

I pains me and I hate to say this...it looks like lsu has a good shot at being the National Champions. If you disliked and got tired of the Halloween punt return, get your self ready for even more if they do become the National Champions.

My hat is off to all of you who are pulling for lsu, because of the number of LA players on the team. I cannot bring myself to do that. If lsu never won another athletic event it would be too soon. If we never competed against them in sports it would be too soon. My memories of the regional baseball play off, and the attitude of their fans is still a vivid memory. I refuse to set foot on their campus for an athletic event. Call me stupid, childish, etc. but the abuse those people spout is not to my liking, and I don't have to tolerate it. Discretion is the better part of valor.

Having said that, I too have some very good friends who are lsu alumni, and they are decent folks. Can't say that they pull for UL, but they are not of the arrogant type. They are definitely in the minority. Do I wish that things were different between the fans of the two schools? Yes, I do. But I am a realist and an old one at that. I will never live to see the day of wholesale cordiality between the fans.

    "Nuff sed!

I could put you in touch with my #3 son who began at UL and transferred to McNeese. He does not hate lsu. He despises them. He too has been the recepient of the "lsu ardor".

I truly believe they will be the Champions, and your wish will come true. If so, I will congratulate them and you, but expect only the word, congratulations!

charlie, it doesn't count if you were a ul hater already and then went to mcneese! i meant 'virginal' mcneese people. and of course there's got to be a few of the latter who do dislike lsu, but the point is it seems MOST ul fans go to sleep hoping the headline in the sadvertiser will be lsu burned to the ground during the night. and excluding tulane, the traditional, over 100 yr old, rival [and even their scorn is a more rational one], the ul anti-lsu credo is unique among the 'other in state schools.' but, hey, i love hating florida, hating anybody tuberville coaches, hating miami and fsu--so i am in touch with the general feeling. i don't hate any la. school tho'---pulled hard for tulane in the cws last year, in fact. listened on the radio to every pitch 6 years ago when the cajuns beat so car, and that was before i had a cajun-daughter. bottom-line, i hope you're right about them being champs, and i'll accept those congrats. take care.

I am not certain where you are going with your post. If you are complaining about the talent level, it is a legitimate complaint. If you are complaining that Lee is not the man for the job, because of his inability to recruit, then I feel you are on the wrong page. I say this because I think Lee and his coaches can evaluate talent, and do try their best to recruit talent. One of the shortcomings in our recruiting is the lack of substantial funds to travel to observe potential talent, and then to fund visits of potential talent for a campus visit.

Regardless, and the good Lord willing, I will be in the same seats I have held since the Dome opened. Can't give up on my Ragin Cajuns.
Make no mistake about it ---this is a Butch Piere team--He gets them there!!!!
