I tweeted about this earlier today. Brignac was the 2011 Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year after going 32-7 with a 1.50 ERA. She was 14-3 with a 1.08 ERA in league play. And she won the Academic Heisman for softball combining her accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.
The 2012 Preseason Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year Hannah Coleman was 19-7 with 2.51 ERA last season. The other preseason all-conference pitcher, FAU's Taylor Fawbush, was 14-11 with a 3.02 ERA.
So the league's two preseason all-conference pitchers were a combined 33-18 last season, and Brignac was 32-7? And Brignac had more league wins than Fawbush did overall but is left off? This discussion is not even close.
This is as ridiculous as the voting format for the Sun Belt all-tournament team. Put the best players on the damn team, and if you can't do that because of politics than it's time to stop having a team.
Sometimes the media get it wrong when it comes to all-conference, all-region and all-America voting. In this case, it's all on the coaches for lacking common sense and not doing what's right and voting the best pitcher in the league on the preseason all-conference softball team.
I'm confident Ashley will show them their mistake with her performance in the circle this year. She's the best in the Belt by a large margin. Not to mention one of the best in the country.
I ran across a website called collegesportsmadness.com which lists info on many of the college sports. I thought their pre-season Sun Belt All Conference awards were interesting (they must have missed the coaches thoughts
).
