Thread: The Steve Gleason Story

    Default The Steve Gleason Story

    http://www.twitvid.com/YN5J9

Steve Gleason, 34, years old was diagnosed with Lou Gherig's Disease earlier this year. Most of you remember him from his blocked punt 5 years ago in the reopening of the Superdome following Katrina.

5 years later, he struggled to walk onto the field for the pregame coin toss and to lead the fans in the "Who Dat" chant. Really sad to see how the disease has taken its toll on him and the hardest part is that after years of trying, his wife is currently 8 months pregnant with his first child.

Have a friend struggling through this right now. A horrible disease that leaves the mind perfectly intact and takes a painfully slow physical toll.

Does anyone know how you could contact Steve Gleason. I am a huge fan of his. I actually own a Steve Gleason jersery. I am very distraught at the news of his health. I would like to show support for him and his family and let him know that there are thousands of fans who are very grateful for what he has done for Saints fans. I truely believe player like him laid the foundation for the great season we had in 09. Steve if you ever read this Thanks and God bless you and your family

I wish I could help you with that. Maybe try contacting the Saints to see if they have any information.

    Thanks,

Steve Gleason is one of my all time favorite Saints. Steve brought fire and passion to the Saints and Saint's fans when we needed the most. I would only like to return the favor. I will try to contact the Saints Thanks again

We were at the game and the chant he led and ovation that he got before and afterward were amazing. I'll never forget that blocked punt.

That is awful news. And with his wife now expecting their first child ... I recently had a high school classmate lose her husband to ALS. He had just been diagnosed in April. I was shocked at how quickly he was gone. My prayers are with Steve and his family.

    Here's his website: http://www.team-gleason.com/

Also, Jeff Duncan of the Times-Pic wrote a tremendous piece on Steve for today's paper. It got a few mentions from some bigger national names on twitter today. Much more in depth than the AP article:

So sorry to hear this. I always like the scrappy "underdog" players like Gleason who may not have been the most talented but always gave it everything they had in the game.

Sean Payton and Drew Brees changed the "culture" for that organization. Don't think that just because we are 1 and 0 in conference it has completely changed
for the Cajuns. That will happen when the coach no longer has to threaten to go into the parking lot and get the tailgaters into the stadium. Too many still did that in Game 1.
