UL Basketball Basketball In State Recruitment

With the Northwestern State win today with Louisiana players, maybe Coach Lee and his staff need to start recruiting more in Louisiana and getting some of these players that are helping there schools win and advance. I hope he starts changing his policy of getting so many transfers and Jr. College players.
Regardless, I believe we have a long way to go to get back to being a power again.

    Congrats to the Demons.

The reason we got all these jucos right now is because a lot of high school players backed out of scholorships. If not for Ryan Francis switching to a USC committment he would have been here instead of Barksdale. Booker Woodfox a great shooter from texas was signed and ended up being ineligble. Oseni the big center we took back his scholorship offer because he showed that he could not be loyal when Georgetown came calling. His first prioty was high school guys as shown here but when they turn on you, you have to find the best available and we found the best available.

You have to remember coaches recruit guys who can run their systems. Northwestern runs a system that you have at least 10 guys playing significant playing time. They upset a great team today because Iowa couldn't adjust well to that style. Northwestern will give West Virginia problems because its hard to prepare for them when you only have a day to prepare.
The team I would like to be more like would be UW- Milwaukee...they run the floor the entire game and put pressure on the opponent. Anytime I get the chance to watch them I do because it is such a fun style to watch.

Recruiting focus for Coach Lee this spring is high schoolers, most of them in state and some of them did well in the recent Top 28. I expect to see 4 to 5 guys sign in mid April and I expect only one will be a JC.

Three transfers are already here. You can't tell them to leave now because the emphasis is now going to high schoolers. I also would not be surprised if Spencer Ford returns. One tramsfer, David Dees, will likely be our leading scorer and I predict he will make all SBC. Add the transfers already here and Damon Forrest from Central High to the guys expected to sign in April and we will be ready to compete for the league title again shortly.

If we get a rebounder to work the middle for us I see us winning the league title next year. With Marquie Cooke and David Dees (the two transfers) I see us doing very well next year. Maybe that is just me being optimistic but I see Cooke like I looked at Oriene when he was here and that is as a game changer. Then You have Dees who is a proven scorer. I like it, I like it a lot!!

An uncle of one of our recruits told me that we are attempting to sign one high schooler for each position. His nephew is the PG, the nephew of an assistant is the SG, Forest the SF and I don't know about the other 2.

  8. UL Basketball I am sick

With the success LSU is having we will never get another kid from Louisiana to sign at UL. I don't hate LSU and I even rooted for them against Duke. But if they win a national championship we wil never get another local player. I am sick.

I dont think I completely agree. They only have so many scholarships to give and spots on the team. Some kids will want more playing time too, which there is only so many minutes per game to give. I think they have only one scholarship to give this season (Darrell Mitchell), unless someone turns pro. They also have one or two transfers sitting out.

With the non-success Brandon Bass has had in the pros I think the current players will stay put for the next two years.

Don't be sick. Take 2 Peptos and rile me in the morning.

    I agree with jbreaux.

Think of it this way. Let’s say LSU had won a basketball national championship 5 years ago. Do you really think their current roster would be as heavy with players from a 75 mile radius?

    I don't

I think some of those players (final 4 caliber players) would be playing for UL right now.

Let’s look back in 5 years and let’s see what happens, I don't think UL will be hurt one bit. Lee is too good at spotting talent.
