Its a perception because our football program has not done anything over recent years to suggest otherwise. It has nothing to do with the "branding" the university does or doesn't do for itself but rather, our lack of results over the years.

Yes we did have an outstanding season last year, but lets not forget where we were about 10 years ago. We were way down the list, it will take us some time to get respect.

All true. and while his original complaint may have seemed over the top I think he does have a point in that it at least needs to be brought to the attention of our SID and marketing folks so they can contact these guys, educate them and set the record straight. Lets face it, if they would comment about Southern Miss's new coach "Hugh Freed" or congratulated Arkansas Little Rock for winning the Sun Belt football title this year someone from those institutions would be correcting them.

Maybe it was the wrong messenger or the message was presented the wrong way but I think he does have a point there.

I made it clear years ago that I thought our branding should focus on Ragin' Cajuns, because that is most recognizable. But I don't interrrupt every single topic to whine about it. What good does that do here? Nothing!E mail the admin, call THEM, become the marketing director of the University....something meaningful, because here, it falls on deaf ears. If it helps you vent, the so be it...but now you can vent in your own personal thread and not bombard everyone else.
I didn't try to have a separate thread on this. I made one comment in a single paragraph post. You took it all out of proportion with your blast. Every post I have does NOT pertain to our name issue and I do not bombard everyone on this issue. I only post pertinent things I see. Some people want to know about it and others like yourself don't. If people like you don't comment on it and make this more than it is, it goes away. Now, my simple post got turned into a separate thread because of you, not me.

Yes, branding should be our focus from now on. Look at what marketing an correctly branding for these schools.

    Mississippi Southern - Southern Miss
    California-Berkley - Cal
    Troy St. - Troy
The NFL Network should have been blasted from our SID. I promise if our SID's last name was Bonnette, pick one, they would have been all over that! LOL!
Louisiana is who we are and what we represent. Stop leaving it to the public to make an assumption. We coined they word "Geaux", we have the real swamp as a stadium and we represent the culture that country loves about Louisiana. Branding, Branding, Branding!!!
To Bill and LaDarius, keep up the good work.

I prefer to look at it this way:

There was a thread on our two guys in the Senior Bowl. You took the time to bring up this perception issue you have (again) and someone called you out on it. Your post deserved it's own thread from the beginning.

But that's just my perception on it.

2 of 3 of those arent really applicable because they are the actual official school names. That's not branding, its renaming your school and having people use the actual name. Cal is the only one that is a deviation from their school name. Of course, there are more applicable schools. We bring them up anytime argues the name issue.

The reason it keeps getting brought up is because it is important. I get tired of it as well, but, ______, I'm MORE tired of constantly having to deal with this issue due to the lack of resolution. This IS a constant battle. It will ALWAYS be that way if we don't try to get it straightened out sooner rather than later. I agree with HC that this needs to be addressed. The ones who forced this "compromise" down our throats are only too happy to see us bickering among ourselves on this issue. I'd rather we didn't do it so much in public. But, as they say, it is what it is. I choose not to bring it up or comment on it as frequently as HC does, but I feel where he is coming from.

I agree. What's the point of having players in a high profile game if they can't get the name of our school right? It's downright disrespect! Who cares about our guys in the game? Get the name right first!

If you read the follow-up posts, you will see that others have interest in this subject. Why not leave posts to those who find interest in them and ignore what you consider repetitious? Any identification of a name problem like at the Senior Bowl is not intended to start a whole new thread on the subject. It is just identifying yet another incident for those who care. If you don't care, simply ignore it and move on. I don't comment on threads and posts about non sports related stuff like best king cakes or favorite songs. I just read them and move on. I suggest you and others do the same.
