Thread: UL adds beef, speed to fold

  1. Default UL adds beef, speed to fold

On one of its biggest recruiting weekends before the NCAA's national signing period opens Feb. 1, UL reportedly received at least two more verbal commitments — including one by a receiver, from New Orleans, Raymond Jackson, and one from a massive Minnesota defensive lineman Karmichael Dunbar with family ties to Louisiana.

Those of you wondering who "Elson" is and wanting to run a search in scout.com...his darn name is misspelled in the DA article. His name is actually "Trae Elston"...is a 3 star recruit out of alabama...and has 19 (yep 19) offers.

You would think the DA writer could get the most important thing...the name...right in the article.

Are some of these WRs expected to change positions once they arrive? It seems like we're gonna have way too many with all of the returners, transfers, and commits.

I wouldn't call him horrible, but he does seem to have a negative take about UL to most of his stories and he (or his editor) does a poor job with spelling. Almost all of his stories have one or more spelling errors. On the plus side, I think he has done a good job of getting a lot of stories about UL out there and he generally writes well. Just the negativity and spelling errors bug me.

This is my outside opinion, and if you read it Josh feel free to comment/correct me, but recruiting has always been a hazy and difficult subject with regards to newspaper writers and beat reporters doing stories on the matter. Lets be honest, they usually dont have the time nor nearly the info that the specialized sites do (Cajunredzone.com!) so when time comes to put a story about recruiting, most of the info is only partially correct.

They will use Scout or Rivals for info on offers, etc., which CajunT himself just made a great point yesterday about how that info is listed based mainly off of verbal offers, many of which arent applicable at this time of year. Also, its hard for him to know when UL has pulled offers or withdrawn interest in certain players so it comes off that we lost a recruit to this school, when in fact, we moved on to another prospect or had no interest or something else came up.

he doesnt like it here and it shows. any writer who doesnt bother to make sure the names of athletes are correct, just doesnt care. his writing style is too chopped and its like having to put together a puzzle to read it. Half the time i can tell if he makes a sentence sound stupid on purpose or if its another error. in my opinion he is horrible.

If you have read the Advertiser for any number of years the misspelling of words is a problem throughout the paper. He does a good job but I did prefer Josh's syle. I looked at a copy of paper from late 80's where the Cajuns were still in the American South and the reporting is much better and much more thourough.

In my humble opinion Tim is doing a good job but I will decide how good when I see his reporting on Softball.
