  1. Default CajunBlog by Dan McDonald

There's mostly good news for UL's football team in Athlon Sportsı annual college football magazine, one of the first to hit the summer newsstands.

The magazine picks the Ragin' Cajuns to win the Sun Belt, and also has the Cajuns finishing 8-3 with one "swing" game. The losses are to LSU, which Athlon ranks 11th, Texas A&M (33rd) and Houston (64th), and the swing game is against Arkansas State.

The Cajuns themselves are 99th of the 119 Division I-A teams, but thatıs still good enough to lead the Sun Belt Conference. The next-highest Sun Belt team is ASU at No. 105, and the rest of the league are among the bottom dozen in the national rankings.

The photo in the Athlon magazine of Jerry Babb may be one of the greatest photographs of all time...

    I laughed...
    I cried...
I went through all the emotions.

A proud papa whose child was put up for adoption without additional consent. . . .

OK they would have had to pay for the download and you made a couple of pennies. What I want to know is this, how much would a freelance photographer make in a direct sale to a magazine of this sort?

  5. UL Football ULM hopes to defy predictions by magazine prognosticators

With the preseason conference player of the year in 2005 in Steven Jyles, college football magazines all ranked Louisiana-Monroe in the top half of the Sun Belt going into last season. Still, none picked the eventual Sun Belt co-champions to bring home the title.

This year, the Warhawks will once again have to defy the preseason prognosticators in they desire a conference title. By and large, the preseason magazines are predicting a rebuilding year for ULM, ranking the Warhawks anywhere from fifth to last place in the Sun Belt. Only collegefootballnews.com picked ULM to finish in the top half of the conference, ranking it No. 4 overall.

Every magazine seems to have the same reservations about ULM. Who will replace Jyles at quarterback and how will the Warhawks rebuild a front seven that lost five starters and two key backups?

The Sporting News, which ranked ULM seventh in the conference, mentioned ULM twice in its preseason notes and neither was good. Jyles was named as the biggest shoes to fill in the conference, while ULM was tabbed as the team "declining."

"The program lost it's best player — quarterback Steven Jyles," Sporting News said, "along with the top receiver, the defensive line, and the second- and third-leading tacklers from last season.

UL Football CFN has their Sun Belt Outlook Up

Collegefootballnews has their Sun Belt preview posted. They have the Cajun's offense as the best in the conference with the Cajun's having the #1 QB, RB and OL rankings for the conference. Should be a banner year for the Cajuns and I look forward to seeing them dominate in New Orleans!

UL Football Re: CFN has their Sun Belt Outlook Up

I see where the New Orleans Bowl is on the 22nd, and if I'm not mistaken the Independence Bowl is the 27th. So if my Cajuns make the N.O. Bowl, and my Cyclones make the Independence bowl, (They've already played there 2 times in the last 5 years) old ISUCajunfan just may have to take a week and a half vacation and hit both. Now that would be one heck of a week!!

Offense - Expect more of the same from the nation's seventh best rushing team with running, running and more running. The passing attack will produce a bit more if QB Jerry Babb doesn't miss time like last year, but there won't be too much fun 'n' gun with Tyrell Fenroy leading a loaded backfield that gets to run behind Brandon Cox and one of the Sun Belt's best lines. The passing game is a question mark with the top two receivers gone from an attack that cranked out a mere three touchdown passes. Depth on the offensive line will be a concern early on.
