If coach Ricky Bustle had a five-year plan when he accepted the job in 2002, he would appear to be right on schedule.
The Ragin' Cajuns won their last five games a year ago, and although Arkansas State beat them out on the tie-breaker to go to the New Orleans Bowl, many believed ULL was the best team in the Sun Belt at season's end.
With 16 starters back and only 13 lettermen departed, ULL would seem to be the obvious pick to win the Sun Belt title in Bustle's fifth season at the helm.
Even Bustle admits there is a different attitude surrounding the program, which has struggled mightily the past decade.
"There is no question the attitude is completely different," Bustle said. "It takes a few years to have success and to play as good as we did last year, and I think you've seen that carry over."
In the past, ULL has been chasing Sun Belt favorites, but the bull's-eye will be on the Ragin' Cajuns chest in 2006.
"I think we have to be able to handle it the same no matter where we're picked," he said. "We'll have to be able to handle that (big expectations), but it's not how you tee it off, it's how you arrive."
