UL Football Re: Cajun preview on CFN

    Posted by FOX Sports...

ROSTER REPORT: Sophomore QB Michael Desormeaux, who saw a lot of action last season, was seriously injured in a four-wheeler accident in December. He required more than 100 stitches in his head and had partial paralysis in his face. He didn't practicing this spring, but should return this fall. ... LB Wes Simon suffered a serious concussion against Central Florida last year and missed the rest of the season. However, he is back and at No. 2 on the depth chart.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "All spring we wanted to get a look at our younger players. Because of some injuries, we were able to get a lot of looks, and I'm pleased with the progress I saw from the young guys." -- ULL coach Ricky Bustle.

    TEAM REPORT: Inside Slant

Inside Slant | Notes and Quotes | Strategy and Personnel
If coach Ricky Bustle had a five-year plan when he accepted the job in 2002, he would appear to be right on schedule.

The Ragin' Cajuns won their last five games a year ago, and although Arkansas State beat them out on the tie-breaker to go to the New Orleans Bowl, many believed ULL was the best team in the Sun Belt at season's end.
With 16 starters back and only 13 lettermen departed, ULL would seem to be the obvious pick to win the Sun Belt title in Bustle's fifth season at the helm.

Even Bustle admits there is a different attitude surrounding the program, which has struggled mightily the past decade.

"There is no question the attitude is completely different," Bustle said. "It takes a few years to have success and to play as good as we did last year, and I think you've seen that carry over."

In the past, ULL has been chasing Sun Belt favorites, but the bull's-eye will be on the Ragin' Cajuns chest in 2006.

"I think we have to be able to handle it the same no matter where we're picked," he said. "We'll have to be able to handle that (big expectations), but it's not how you tee it off, it's how you arrive."

Jake is the single-season record holder, but I don't remember the yardage exactly. I know it begins with a "2", though.

I think Jake is 99 yards short of 3000 for a single season

As usual, you are correct. 2901 is the record, set in 1996
