    Default Combine question

With Green and Bentley being invited to the combine; are they training somewhere or is coach Whitt making them run the stadium?

In talking to Mike Dez after he got back from a training camp----he mentioned a great improvement in his speed and strength and other various testing areas---I asked him why our coaches didn't use the same techs to improve---He said he was getting ready for some tests and our coaches were getting ready to play football games--pretty interesting!!!!

Boomer, doesn't that statement make a statement? In the combines they are measuring certain things, specific tests, in order to grade out a player. However, to maximize those (or minimize as the case may be) those measurements, a player is hampering his "football playing" skills.

That could be one reason why so many high draft choices are out of football in a few years.

The NFL is far too fixated on "measurables." I still think Andy Martin (USL '82) could have played pro ball, but never got past those measurables.

That is why I was disappointed when the "minor" football leagues such as the USFL and NFL Europe were disbanded. Those leagues gave players who didn't pass muster on the "measurables" a chance to show what they coudl actually do. If not for those leagues NFL fans may never have know who guys such as Sam Mills, Kurt Warner and Jake Delhomme, among others, were.

You dont need an invitation to the combine to enter the NFL. Pro Day is another venue. Some players are training with Coach Whitt and other trainers specifically for speed.

You are definitely correct, but the exposure at the combine is to all NFL teams. Pro Day is only teams that decide to send a scout. Which this year is good for all players not named Green or Bentley.

Is KP looking to try out for the pros? I would assume he is. If so, best wishes and good luck to him!

  9. Default Combining skills: UL's Green, Bentley headed for NFL Combine

For Ragin' Cajuns Ladarius Green and Dwight "Bill" Bentley, however, the Jan. 28 postseason all-star game for college seniors is but another step on the path to what is the ultimate goal for both these days. That, for now, would be going high in ...

After his Senior season I could find Charles Tillman running up the tunnel at the Swamp, every day . . . Backwards.

    No joke.
