My family has donated money to UL and not one of them has graduated from there. However, they live in Lafayette and they like to contribute to the local school. I have three friends that graduated from UL and they are all big Alabama fans (way before this season). None of them ever lived a day or even have family in the state of Alabama. That doesn't make sense to me either.... _
I've become an Alabama fan too. I love watching them kick the crap out of LSU.

Yeah, I suppose that's their reasoning as well. Oh well, whatever floats your boat. I'll be a Bama "fan" this Thursday as well.

"it is not MY "state school", nor should it be."

Actually if you live in Louisiana it is. You don't have to like it...but it is what it is...The Flagship of this state, and the only tier 1 university in this state.

That is what I heard also every state has to have one.

I'm just amazed at the method used to make it happen

So that begs the question? Why do you live in Lafayette when everything for you points east? Is Lafayette not good enough for you? Does Baton Rouge really make you all tingly in the shorts? Why cant you see, without UL, this great university in Lafayette, your screen name doesnt ____ing exist? Show some sack, support your local university or get the hell out of town! _
I support both universities. I have season tickets to LSU football, UL Football & UL basketball. As much as many of you would like to make this a Lafayette-BR thing, I like most folks in Lafayette, will not. It is a Louisiana thing. LSU is the school that represents the state whether you like it or not. UL is a state regional school. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face!

    Tier I swallowed Tier II.

Ingenious, sounds like something Huey would orchestrate.

So you are saying all Florida, Texas, California, Alabama, Michigan residents... even those graduates of other schools in those states should give money and support those schools.

Yep... I can just see those Texas A&M, Florida State, USC, Michigan State and Auburn fans and grads rooting for and making out those checks to their respective " state schools".

How stupid do you think they and we are?

LSU doesn't represent me. It represents itself... and all the LSU fans across the state that think that LSU refers to a football team in Baton Rouge.

"Texas A&M, Florida State, USC, Michigan State and Auburn"

Not the same type of schools...these are all large top universities that are the original university in their system. Louisiana is set up to have a Flagship, and then a system of small regional schools. Can Troy (regional) be an Alabama fan and Troy fan...yes. Can FIU fans be a Florida fan...yes. Can an Ark State fan be a U Ark fan...yes. Can a Texas State fan be a U Tex fan...yes. Can a Central Michigan be a U Michigan fan...yes. Can a U-L-M, U-L-L, LA Tech, NW state, McNeese State (all regional Ex. Region and/or city tag) be a fan of LSU...yes. Compare to schools of your size...not large BCS conf schools. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. U-L-L is in no way a Texas A&M, FLA St., USC, Mich St., or Auburn.

So you are helping to prove my point. This is the only state of the ones I mentioned that has a "supposed" flagship university that thinks so little of itself and has such little confidence in its position that it must spend so much of its time and efforts, not making itself better, but in an attempt to make sure no other schools improve themselves and provide competition. This goes back to the days of the school founder and band leader, Huey P. Long, who was obsessed with the school of "grape and yellow".

That is precisely why, as I've said previously, that LSU cannot and will never compete with other large universities across the country. The LSU degree is second to all of them and so many more across the country.

But, hey... how bout dem tigas?!
