New Cajun Dad, beware.... Fans will be fans. Some things may be said in the heat of the moment that will bust a parent in the gut.

Last year, the boys started out 0-5....some cats here were ready to bail.....

FUNNY....they came around just in time for the blood letting of ulm@littlerock

Just remember, try not to take the negative personally...We all love the kids, Bustle, and staff....

We hope you guys have a productive, healthy, 4-5 years at UL!

When noting criticism, one must appreciate the positive and the negative to indeed move forward and improve. My note was not with that intent. There are several people in the community (not only parents, but alumni and other supporters) that enjoy the atmosphere of Ragin Cajun football. Going by the number of people who attend practices, banquets, etc. there is an interest in what is going on and we have an opportunity to develop that interest by getting the word out on events, etc.

Can anyone confirm the time schedules for spring practices? Can we get this info out (possibly in the Advertiser, etc,) to those interested?

    Go Cajuns!!

    This is only a guess

So far I can only go by last year and I may be getting some times mixed up from fall practice, but I f I recall they were similar.

Red Dawn 5:30am Monday Wednesday Friday

Spring practice will probably be fairly similar to Fall practice where the first few started with newcomers at 2:30pm and the varsity joined at 3:30pm.

Now for spring I think there are only 3 newcomers the JC transfers. I could be wrong.

Welcome to the board, NCD! I see you are living in the Mandeville area. So do I. What area do you live in? I am on the east side of Mandeville, off Hwy 1088. Where did your son go to school? My oldest is a senior at UL and went to Fontainebleau HS. My youngest is a soph. at FHS. Best of luck to your son! Geaux Ragin' Cajuns!!!

PS, Like Z said, as a parent these forums can be a bit rough. Hope you bear that in mind (during the season especially!). Have fun!

  6. UL Football Re: Spring Football

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns will start spring football, their fifth under head coach Rickey Bustle, on Friday, March 17. In fact, UL will practice each of the first four days of their spring season. In total, the Cajuns will practice 14 times before the annual Red/White Spring Game on Saturday, April 8.

The Cajuns will work an accelerated spring, compared to past sessions under Bustle. UL has 12 practice dates slated in the first 16 days, before undergoing just two practices in the final six days prior to the spring game.

The Cajuns lost just four starters on offense, three on defense and only 13 total letterwinners from last season’s Sun Belt championship squad

Ninety players are set to compete this spring, including 85 returning student-athletes and signees Junior Ramos, Korey Raymond and Lamarr Waiters. That group will welcome an expected 18 additional signees and several new walk-ons in the fall.

Six notables will practice this spring, but be held out of all contact drills, including Sun Belt All-Purpose Player of the Year Michael Desormeaux. Also limited will be Michael Adams, Joseph Hadnot, Michael Zatarain, Brent Burkhalter and Travis Ferguson.

A pair of starters return to practice at 100 percent after missing most of 2005 with injuries. Running back Chester Johnson (shoulder) and linebacker Wes Simon (head) should be ready to compete for their old jobs.

Rickey Bustle’s fifth annual Women’s Football Clinic will be held on the eve of the spring football game (Friday, April 7) from 6:30-10pm. For more information call 337-482-6318.

  8. Default DAY 1

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns took the football field on Friday afternoon for the first time since Nov 26, 2005 - their season-ending 54-21 victory at Louisiana-Monroe.

Just before the start of practice, head coach Rickey Bustle reminded his players of that game, which gave the Cajuns a share of the Sun Belt Conference Championship.

As Bustle began his address, he flashed Louisiana's newest hardware - the Cajuns championship rings, which arrived just hours before Friday's practice.

"When it boils down to it, everything you do from off-season work, spring practice and summer training, it comes down to having a championship ring on your hand," Bustle stated. "That's what it's all about."

The Cajuns started day one of spring work with a two-hour session in shorts and helmets under sunny skies, temperatures in the upper 70's and the humidity under 30 percent.

"It was a great day to get started," Bustle said. "We just finished the last couple weeks of our 6 a.m. 'Red Dawn' training. That was the end of phase one and now we're out here starting phase two.

"The guys came into our off-season program with a great attitude. There was a tremendous carry-over from the way we finished last season."

The Cajuns will work an accelerated spring, compared to past sessions under Bustle. UL has 12 practice dates slated in the first 16 days, before undergoing just two practices in the final six days prior to the spring game.

Eighty-eight players hit the field on Friday, including signees Junior Ramos, Korey Raymond and Lamarr Waiters.

"I'm excited about the talent we have coming back and I think we have a great nucleus coming in," Bustle commented. "The challenge is to get better and be more consistent.

"There are some new players coming in that we expect to make a big impact."

The Cajuns will return to the practice field on Saturday with a 10:30 a.m. workout.

  9. UL Football Bustle begins spring drills by motivating UL

University of Louisiana head football coach Rickey Bustle opened spring football practice Friday with a pep talk to his Ragin' Cajun squad, not much of it different from previous seasons.

"We talked about what we're trying to do, and about doing things the right way," Bustle said, "And, how good things will happen if you do that."

Then he pulled out the fruits of his team's most recent labors - the championship rings from last year's Sun Belt Conference-winning squad, which had arrived earlier that day.

"There was a lot of whooping and hollering," Bustle said. "We'd been waiting on those things to get here."

The veteran players, those who were part of UL's season-ending five-game win streak and a share of the league title, didn't know the rings had arrived until they hit the field for the first of 15 spring practice sessions.

"It felt good," said offensive tackle and all-league returnee Brandon Cox. "Everybody got excited. We were all anxious to get in after practice to get ours. But we're not satisfied with just one."

  10. UL Football Ward injured on Day 2

One of the things the University of Louisiana football team doesn't need to happen happened in the final minutes of spring drills Saturday morning.

Cornerback Kyle Ward went down with a hamstring injury on his final play Saturday in the final drill of session two of UL's spring practice. The severity of the injury was not immediately known, but it was enough to keep him out of Saturday's Louisiana Classics track and field meet, where he was one of the favorites in the 110-meter hurdles.

More importantly for the football squad, Ward will likely miss several practice sessions - not the best news, since UL has its spring sessions front-loaded with nine of its allowed 15 practices scheduled in the first 11 days.

Day two of spring drills Saturday was very similar to Friday's day one, with installation dominating the two-hour and 15-minute practice. Cajun coach Rickey Bustle was hoping Saturday's drills looked better on film than Friday's opener.

Just hope he has a speedy recovery and does not get injured during the season, or anytime for that matter.
