Re: BB Final: Louisiana 9, Houston Christian 10

Yes, the committee would look at conference strength overall, absolutely.

Since the new 64-team tournament format commenced in 1999, only 5 of 24 Sun Belt champions (regular season conference...

Correct. This has been part of the selection criteria since I began tracking this stuff ... late 80's. All at-large teams must have winning records.

Re: SB Final: Louisiana 5, McNeese 4

I mentioned elsewhere that both Louisiana and LSU hosted regionals in 2014 and 2016. Being 60 miles down the road from each has never been a reason why one of the schools did not host a regional. It...

Re: SB Final: Louisiana 5, McNeese 4

Only hard to believe if you believe that the RPI is a good arbiter of strength. You can game the RPI system to have a very high RPI without actually having proved that you can beat those peer teams...

BTW, both #10 LSU and #14 Louisiana hosted in 2015 and 2016 (LSU #5 Louisiana #13). Both advanced from their own regionals in both years.

Softball (and Baseball) has evolved to the point (for a while now) where they assign the national seeds on merit ... period. And while it has not always been this way, for a while national seeds have...

Re: SB Final: Louisiana 5, McNeese 4

I always want to host. Great for the program and fans. By the same logic, would you have preferred that the Cajun baseball team not hosted in 2000 (even though they were the #2 seed in their own...

Re: SB Final: Louisiana 5, McNeese 4

Cajuns did pass Arkansas and Florida State did pass the Cajuns, but I should have said Cajuns at #14 (does not move in ranking). Florida State also moved past Oklahoma State, to get to #11 (not good...

Re: BB Final: Louisiana 9, Houston Christian 10

If they finished at .500 or under, they would not be eligible for NCAA Tournament play. Florida, Xavier, and Notre Dame are also at risk because of this rule (all ahead of the Cajuns in RPI)....

Re: BB Final: Louisiana 9, Houston Christian 10

Yes ... I have been preaching that for years ... and many still do not grasp it. A good example ...

You beat Houston Christian and take 1/3 vs. Southern Mississippi

has the exact same effect on...

    1.3 losses vs. 0.7 losses.

As stated yesterday, a win tonight would have resulted in a drop in RPI so negligible, it is not worth mentioning. Basically neutral.

Re: BB Final: Louisiana 9, Houston Christian 10

There was not a significant difference between Houston Baptist and Jackson State. Both are damaging if you lose.

The main concern is losing back-to-back games ... and losing to Houston Christian...

Re: SB Final: Louisiana 5, McNeese 4

Unless Warren Nolan's Base RPI calculations are lagging tonight, I expect the Cajuns to pass Arkansas (by a small margin) in the official RPI calculations through today's games. That would put the...

I do not know what may or may not be normal from year to year. But if you go on winning streaks like East Carolina and North Carolina did in 2022, you give yourself a chance to move up significantly....

    Re: SB Louisiana vs McNeese

The game tonight can lift the Cajuns (#14 .65527) over #13 Arkansas (.65596) as not much separates them. Alabama (.66052) (idle until Tennessee this weekend) and Oklahoma State (.66092) (hosts North...
